Moderated Using wrong pronouns= violence??

Speech is always physical act: people move parts of their bodies in order to create sound that travels in waves and strikes other peoples' bodies. There's no such thing as nonphysical speech. Even telepathy or Borg hive minds would require movement of matter or energy in order to communicate. We are living, so the prophet said, in a material world.

So if speech is always physical, and an insult can be an act of violence, do you believe an insult can justify criminal charges of assault?

That hammers the ear drum, which pounds an electric signal to the brain which forcibly modifies neurons in the brain in a harmful way! OMG, it is physical violence!

You've cracked the code!

Might as well charge someone with assault & battery if they call you the wrong pronoun.

Yes, might as well. Students at a university use the word violence in a way you think is incorrect, and is possibly obscure in modern American English, but technically correct, is just one step away from a gestapo woke police force arresting people on the street for referring to a person as "he" instead of "apache attack helicopter".

ETA:
Its called "sarcasm".

Wait, so you don't really think this is a slippery slope scenario?

Unless your whole interaction in this thread was a performance piece, it was as much sarcasm as Trump is ever "sarcastic" when his lies fall flat.

Godwin is when Nazis are brought up in a thread unrelated to Nazis, what do we call it when Trump is brought up in a thread unrelated to him?

I think TragicMonkey is just cracking wise.

Give us an example of a context in which mere words should lead to a charge of assault & battery.
Upchurch, on the other hand, seems to be sincere in his belief that verbal abuse can be classified as criminal violence in at least one context.

I, too, would like to see an example of the context(s) Upchurch has in mind.

I understand that verbal harrassment, if persistent can indeed be very traumatic and lead to emotional abuse and damage.

But is it physical violence, deserving of a criminal charge of assault & battery? NO way. But I'm willing to listen to other views.

It absolutely cannot be battery in any jurisdiction that I know of, unless they change their statutes on battery.

Could ongoing verbal harassment ever be criminal? Hmm yeah, but IMO only in the context of someone being in a legally dependent state of some kind. Like a caregiver at a home for Alzheimer's patients.

To be fair, the way this has headed would make an argument about Borg hive-mind communication requiring matter or not a better use of time.

Ask from the one that made the claim and seems to think goalposts are as fast moving as Borg communication (and it is not Upchurch)
