Usans too fat to fight

Actually, the way it's done these days circumvents this problem. People who fail to pass an initial physical fitness test are dropped to a remedial platoon. There, they are physically trained until they can pass, at which point they are sent to newly forming training platoons, where the process goes on per usual.

That is one way to deal with the problem. Anybody know what has happened to APFT scores over the last 20 years or so? That would be evidence for what is happening.

If the remedial training gets people to a passing level but the APFT scores still suffer an average drop then we still have a problem.

We're in debt up to our eyeballs to the Chinese and everyone else, printing fiat currency like a canary with drizzle diarrhea.

I don't get it. Why would a sick canary print a lot of currency?

Yeah, but...

I have had quite a few privates show up to my platoon fresh out of basic and AIT with clothes that look ridiculously too big for them. When asked why they look so jacked up, they explain how they lost 40+ pounds throughout training. I am not too worried about American obesity hindering our ability to fight. EJ this thread is retarded.
Like everything else EJ posts.

Again, is this actually a problem? More so than smoking for example?
Smoking as a detractor to combat effectivness has yet to be established or correlated.

Or do you have data that demonstrates the validity of your concern?

'... Rising rates of obesity among young Americans could undermine the future of the US military, two retired generals have warned.
More than a quarter of young Americans are now too fat to fight, they said. ...'

Maybe in future they will only invade countries that have large natural burger resources?

Hah! That's actually part of our evil plan. We will just have our soldiers sit on the enemy and crush the life out of them.

I have to send that image to some Revolutionary War Reenactors I know.......

I had another picture like that, only General Washington was manning a forward-facing .50 caliber and all his minutemen were bristling with mall ninja-style AR-15's.

It was pretty cool, to say the least. If I can find it, it's yours. Your friends will laugh.

Americans too fat to fight? Wonder how the "other" side of the house looks...

I'm not concerned.

I just want to say that I think this is a sad / melancholic photo :( The kid, maybe 12-14 years of age, living in war torn Iraq, wearing pyjamas that an 8 year old girl would wear in the western world, but he still is showing strength. I have respect for that.

Well that's kind of my point isn't it?

Stupid.

Fat people are nothing new. The military has ways of dealing with them without slowing everyone down. In the Marines, people who couldn't keep up physically were dropped out of their platoon and into Physical Conditioning (better known as the Pork Chop Platoon). I'm sure the other branches have similar programs.

Also, even if you come out of Basic meeting only the basic minimum of standards for military service, so what? That's what basic is supposed to do, which is why they call it that. Even in the Marines, you aren't expected to be combat ready out of boot camp. You still have to go to school for that.

And that's my final point. A modern military requires something like 4 non-combat personel for every combat troop. If a guy can't handle the physical burdens of combat training, exchange him for one who can who isnt in a combat MOS. But then, the military doesn't need me to tell it to do this, it does it all the time.

Oh, wait. One more thing. You have to remember that fat people aren't necessarily lazy. Young people, at least, generally get that way not because they avoid physical activity, but because they don't have to do it or they enjoy other activities more. When put in a pressure situation such as boot camp, most will rise to the challenge.

Those who do not don't need to be there in the first place.
