Usan special forces killed Linda Norgrove?

So it would seem that, not knowing she was in the central compound, one of them decided to throw down a frag to finish off the bad guys that were there.

Tragic.

Rather unwise as well as tragic. No matter how good the intelligence may appear to be, you will never get 100% accurate information. So they just cannot count on somebody being in a specific building or part of a compound. Even if she had not broken away, she could have been in another location just because she might have to take care of a bodily function.

I am also curious about the use of night vision devices. The image quality in night vision goggles is not all that great. And if there is a bright enough flash, the user can be temporarily blinded. Although from what I have seen, most of the newer ones are not really goggles anymore. Only one eye is used. But if somebody causes any sort of explosion without warning, a large number of people will have their ability to see anything reduced.

In conventional units, they used to limit the flash problem by only issuing night vision gear to half the troops. The other half would have their eyes adapted to darkness.

It was reported in the news today that Linda Norgrove's parents do not blame the US forces for their daughter's death, thereby showing enormously more class and understanding than certain posters in this thread.

No I didn't think any of the "USA is evil" group would comment on this. It's a bit difficult to blame the US military for what was a tragic accident when even the parents don't.
