US Representative Pete Sessions (Republican, Texas) believes in magic and has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives that would recognise magic as a "rare and valuable art form and national treasure".

House Resolution 642 includes the names of illusionists from Harry Houdini to David Copperfield (it also mentions Arthur C. Clarke and Leonardo da Vinci" and states that magic needs to be "preserved, understood, and promulgated".

Whereas magic is an art form with the unique power and potential to impact the lives of all people; Whereas magic enables people to experience the impossible; Whereas magic is used to inspire and bring wonder and happiness to others; Whereas magic has had a significant impact on other art forms.

It also mentions one Eric Hogue, former professional clown and now mayor of Wylie, Texas who "learned the art of magic as a child, continues to use those skills to teach elementary school students about the different roles and responsibilities of local government".

Sessions also believes Big Government is bad and Global Warning is untrue, amongst other hard conservative Republican positions.

Note, I have no problem with illusionists. I would with anyone thinking magic is "real"/supernatural.

Not really any different than trying to promote any other art form and doesn't seem like it would have any other effect than creating some random holiday.

Reads like he'd enjoy a Penn and Teller show. Though I do know some people who are convinced some illusions are practicing supernatural magic.
