US Officials Declare Eastern Cougar Extinct

Jodie, do you understand that thousands of people in the eastern US report seeing cougars every year, and that every one of those people is as sure of their sighting as you are of yours? Many of them even have photos to accompany their claims. The problem is that only a tiny proportion of those reports have ever been confirmed. In other words, a very large proportion of the people making those claims are mistaken - yes, even the ones with the photos they claim up and down show cougars. (Remember the "lion" on the loose in Milwaukee several weeks ago?)

Why, then, should your claim carry any more weight than anyone else's?

Some have tracks, I believe I posted an article from upstate SC with a pic of a track. Even so, as the article states, it's not an indication of a breeding population, just that they can be there.

I don't expect my claim to carry more weight than anyone else's, but I don't expect to be called a liar or stupid because I decided to share a couple of stories that I thought was interesting.

I've been considering buying a game cam for years, after this, I think I'll put one down by the river to see what turns up. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how much wild life actually walks by my house.

Like I've said before, I'm tech NO. I don't have the ability to trace a photo posted on the internet back to the source. There are plenty but I have no way to verify what I'm looking at.
 
ABP would you like to discuss that leopard you shot in South America again? If not, then I would suggest you not comment about someone being a gamer.

I bought a Moultrie cam not too long ago. Thought I'd see what I might catch.

It confirmed 2 things:

1-Groundhogs live in Virginia.

2-You need to spend money to get a decent trail cam.

I know, that's why I've yet to buy one. I've seen large cat prints on the game trail by the river but assumed they were bob cat. They certainly weren't 4 inches wide, but easily as big as a large dog's print.
 
It said it was taken in Crenshaw County but I don't know for certain.
 
Oh well, it has no relevance to my son's experience. So would you say the DNA evidence from the dead cougar shot in the Atlanta Metro area was a hoax?
