US Border Partol now acting like East German border guards

I'd suggest checking them out, but it's like an hour and a half commitment and I'd feel bad if it didn't go well. Plus, I can't think of any that are specifically about people trying to escape justice by fleeing to Canada.

When they make the story of my life, I'll tell you. Boom Tish.

They were leaving, marplots. That's what you people want, isn't it? Or is it your aim to make sure that, after being denied sanctuary in the US, that they can't even go elsewhere to seek it? That seems to be what the BP's actions indicate.

The main argument why it does matter to catch them, is you are supposed to have a healthy or semi healthy political relationship with your northern (or southern) neighbors. When you know somebody is going illegally to enter the friendly country you are allied with, and you let them him because you don't care, that country may not stay friendly very long.

So yes, the US border patrol has a duty to catch illegals trying to enter the canada from the US, and the same mirrored from, canada.

ETA: and the same apply for people the US knows going into canada for any crime practically.

I call it humanity, but I don't think you'd understand that word.

But let's use logic. Explain the logic of arresting some one already leaving the country just so they can be...wait for it...kicked out of the country they're trying to leave!

The difference between the two is that allowing them leave lets them get somewhere where their claim has at least a fighting chance of being upheld while arresting them guarantees they will be sent back to a third-world hellhole where they were politically/culturally/etc oppressed and where their lives may be endangered.

I'm as pro refugee as you will find but the authorities presumably can't just stand back and watch people trying to leave and enter another country illegally either. They wouldn't be doing their job policing the border if they did.

There may also be a need to identify and document these people should they try to re-enter the us in future

Except that, like nearly everything the Right claim, is not actually true. Yes the numbers fell in 2015 and 2106, but even in those two years the Obama Administration deported more people, and for a lot of it considerably more people, than in any year of the Bush Administration.

Yes, but those are real facts.

Trump sheeple and other blind rightists are only interested in alternative facts!

LA Times said:
Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009.

On the other side of the ledger, the number of people deported at or near the border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency's deportation statistics.

LA Times said:
The vast majority of those border crossers would not have been treated as formal deportations under most previous administrations. If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.

I suggest you reevaluate your so called "facts".

Yes, adults.... like Stephen Miller, whose rantings the other day made him look a lot like a bad-tempered man-child stamping his feet in a tantrum!!!

And the Buffoon in Chief who goes off on stream of consciousness rants, lacking any care for veracity, that always gravitate back to delusional self aggrandisement.

Well-known Trump sheep and blind rightist Barack Obama spreading alternative facts.

"The statistics are actually a little deceptive because what we've been doing is, with the stronger border enforcement, we've been apprehending folks at the borders and sending them back. That is counted as a deportation, even though they may have only been held for a day or 48 hours, sent back – that's counted as a deportation."

I already miss the days when a president could make a knowledgeable, nuanced comment on statistics.

Yeah, back in the day, no one criticized Jesus. No one said, "Oh that Jesus, sure, they say he had a multitude, but I tell you that guy Zoroaster, HE had crowds like Jesus could only wish for. Back then, a multitude really was a multitude."

Thanks, but I'll trust the facts supplied by a trusted research organization ahead of those supplied by a media outlet... even a left-leaning media outlet like the LA Times

Be my guest. If you want to plug your ears why should I care. It is well known that the Obama Administration changed the way deportations were calculated for obvious reasons. If you really cared about facts you would have checked numerous other sources, as well. The point you are ignoring is HOW the numbers are calculated, not who reports them.

Yes, it is. Canada is not welcoming them with open arms.

According the link in the OP:
They made it across the border, otherwise they would have been turned away and forced to remain in the US. What should the US officers do, say "up yours Canada! You take them!" ???

Facts that disprove the outrage in the OP are ignored, don't bother. Note the argument continues on in a different tangent without any acknowledgement.

This is one of several threads where evidence is not necessary as long as Trump can be blamed, such as the "ICE Raiding people for going to church" thread.

I believe that the US has the same sovereign right to control immigration as any other nation, only allowing it in the numbers, at the times and places of our choosing. I am for careful vetting of those we do allow to come in.

But there is something fell about the idea that we would try to stop people who were self-deporting (something the GOP/stormTrumpers have been wanting to see for awhile now, or so they claim). They were leaving, but that wasn't good enough. If they had been detained, they would have been sent back to a third-world hellhole. At least in Canada they have a fighting chance.

I never thought I'd see the day when the United States was perceived as being so threatening, so vicious, and so hateful that people FLED from us. Remember when we were the hope of suffering and oppressed people all over the world?

You might want to check that title !!!

Really? Let's write one. Teenagers show up at Canadian border in 1968 and say "Help! My government is trying to get me killed"!
