I was given an interesting box at the armory last weekend. Inside was a folder marked Top Secret containing a letter welcoming me to the Future Soldiers Footlocker and a comic book yeah! I found the contents of the box disturbing and sad.

Inside was a board game called Daring Eagle that looks like a slimmed down version of Sirocco. A card game called Mission Critical thats a cheap MTG ripoff obviously targeted at the Yugi-Oh crowd. Last but not least some packs of National Guard trading cards.

You can download the National Guard RTS here http://www.1800goguard.com/game/game_download.html its a hoot. Yes the government is complaining about violent video games and creating them at the same time. Freely downloadable by any minor I might add.

I was lucky enough to get the Rumsfeld card and the threat levels card WOW. I find many of the cards offensive such as the bomb with "Lets Roll" painted on it and the Hometown Heroes cards that are obviously models, they all look like Vin Diesel and have perfect teeth. Some of the cards contain choice Bush quotes that use phrases like "Evil Doers". I wonder if there is a mission accomplished or a Poland card.

The message is clear, war is just like a music video. Blowing things up is awesome and we do it with XXXTREME style. In your face Saddam BOOYAH!!!

The new recruiting policy must be to indoctrinate them young. This is the worst steaming pile of propaganda I have ever seen its like something out of Starship Troopers. If I hadnt recieved it directly from the armory I would think it was just a sick joke.

I found some pictures of the board game

On the side of the RTS download page notice the link that reads "Parents start here your child the soldier".

I really hate people who hate ....

Charlie ('tis Friday) Monoxide

I really hate people who are three-four years behind the marketing curve, and then start grousing as if they're the first person to ever notice it.

Obviously anti hypeman is unaware of America's Army, a far more personal, violent and realistic experience. That aside, it's a kick-ass good time and free to boot.

Anti hypeman: visit www.americasarmy.com and download it. Fire it up. Then let me know what your handle is so I can track you down and frag you.

Sweet dreams. ;)

I tried it once, you cant skip the training missions and they are so boring I just lost the will to play. If I could find a hack to skip the training missions I would give it another shot. I know how to use the mouse manditory tutorials are a major peeve.

Before there was crying, whining, Prozac, Pearl Jam ballads, posting in internet forums filled with frequent and hollow references to the Holocaust, and other ways to avoid basic maturity at all cost - there were the Boy Scouts.

Scouts were a chief and proud source for the Army's best prospects. The Left has worked hard and with some success to decay the organization. This is apparent by your non-observance of their continued purpose (to recruit 12-year olds) because your life - like so many - is confined to the context of computer games such as "Guard Force" and the other self-immuring activities mentioned above.

The left has errorded the Boy Scouts? Is that why they still ban homosexual and atheist volunteers, encourage military service, and strut aroud in paramilitary uniforms?

Actually, I felt that the training was much more fun than the game itself. You can't even play the terrorists / insurgents / other scary non-Americans, dammit! :D

Really? I think you give the Left too much credit - it sounds like the scouts decayed from within.

Controversies

Different Scouting organizations in different countries have different ideas of what constitutes the values of Scouting. In addition, most national associations admit both boys and girls. The Boy Scouts of America is at the center of some controversy because it has a prohibition of atheist or homosexual members and leaders. Other Scouting organizations (e.g. Scouts Canada and European associations) place more emphasis on inclusivity. The European region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement formally condemned the policy of the Boy Scouts of America to exclude gays. The controversy surrounding the Boy Scouts of America is mostly not relevant to Scouting organisations in other countries or to the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. (which is an entirely separate organization).

_______

And of course, all those wonderful American traditions that we have to make certain don't lapse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_controversies

Let's see, here is a religious-based, homophobic organization . . .

"Several controversies have arisen surrounding the BSA in recent years. Particulary contensious is the BSA's position that its traditional values forbid atheists as members and avowed homosexuals in leadership positions. "
________

. . . which also happens to be traditionally sexist . . .

The Boy Scouts give female adult leaders all of the privileges of male adult leaders. Although this was not true in decades past, the policy was instituted in response to a perceived shortage of adult males willing to participate actively in running the troops.
_________

. . . as well as racially prejudiced . . .

"Until 1948, some southern councils of the Boy Scouts of America were racially segregated. Colored Troops, as they were officially known, were given little support from Districts, Councils. Some Scouting executives and leaders believed that Colored Scouts and Leaders would be less able to live up to the ideals of the Boy Scouts."
________

. . . and since they're heavily endorsed by the Catholic Church . . .

Sexual abuse

Problems with sexual abuse have not been eliminated though new procedures were implemented after it was revealed that thousands of cases had occurred in the 1970's and 80's. The recent arrest of the head of "Youth Protection" for distributing child pornography proved to be an embarrassment for B.S.A. Despite a program that calls for two-deep leadership, a youth protection training booklet and strict procedures designed to prevent abuse, this remains a concern in Scouting, . . .
_________

For the record, I was once a scout, but even at that young age, scouting was racially biased. I realized that I "traditionally" learned all the woodcraft skills I needed anyway through my family. AND, they taught me without insisting that I exclude anyone!
