Teaching evolution now protected

Maybe a bright note: although the vote on evolution was 8-7, "The final board vote to adopt the new standards [was] 13-2, with dissenting votes by Rene Nunez, D-El Paso, and Mary Helen Berlanga, D-Corpus Christi.

Everyone across the nation who is in favor of teaching science in the science classroom needs to write those Board members who held the line and thank them.

I will quote some the issues later - going to be busy most of the day. As one journalist put it, (from memory) "[t]he board firmly shut the door on the 'strengths and weaknesses' language - and promptly ran around the house opening every window" with poorly worded amendments. Yes, this is still a net victory, but not clean.

And my S.O. testified on Wednesday before the board.

Good for your SO. And yes, this is not clean, but there are hardly any complete victories in politics. I'm just so impressed with the eight members who didn't cave.

Well, if a couple of Texas lawmakers have their way, the ICS will soon be an accredited university in Texas, able to issue science degrees at will.
