Upcoming EU parliament elections

I did vote too, although I was pretty sure Front National was going to make a huge score this time. There's a really bad stink going through Europe these times ...

Good grief, the Danish People's Party (aka. Eastern Europeans Out) stands to gain 26,1% of the vote. I'm going to be sick.

Even worse, it means that one out of your four neighbours has voted fascist. Do you know which one? :covereyes

Why haven't the British votes yet been added? They're only now coming in at the BBC. As to the Dutch results (Netherlands also voted on Thursday), on Dutch TV someone "explained" that all the votes from the various districts had to be phoned in and then a "difficult calculation" had to be performed to calculate the allocation of rest seats (which is utter ******** as that can all be prepared in advance).

UKIP ahead in England. Not looking good for the EU referendum, if it ever happens....

Oh my god! Front National won the election in France. :jaw-dropp

Agreed - *********** weird.
Not scared, yet...
But also the UK with UKIP apparently leading.
Germany 7% against Europe

- just heard as I type, UKIP win Doncaster - usually Labour...

Not clear if UKIP will get a Scottish seat. Looking doubtful IMHO but might just scrape through.

If they do, I don't blame the Green Party voters, but I do blame the floating voters who thought Green was a good way to go tactically against UKIP. And I blame the GP leadership for encouraging that. They didn't have a hope. Wasted tactical vote might have swung it.

To be fair, mostly I blame the idiots who voted UKIP, and the BBC who gave UKIP four times as much coverage in Scotland as the SNP during the campaign. The SNP being the party of government in Scotland and UKIP being a party which not only didn't have a single elected representative, it had never saved a deposit in Scotland before, not even at council level.

The results in Scotland thus far don't show a significantly different result for either the SNP, nor the Greens. So what do you mean?

And is there a rule in the UK that east coast districts must call first? Thus far, results are in from North East, York and Humber, East Midlands and Eastern England. ;)

Hooray! The overwhelming UKIP victory that seems to be descending upon us isn't quite as bad looking as the French voting for out and out Nazis!

So our results are marginally less awful than the French. Yay?

Ah, fun:

Suddenly, I do want to send someone "home":

We lost Bill Newton Dunn. Bugger, I voted Lib Dib just to keep him.

Don't despair folks, there's good news after all: In Germany we had no percentage hurdles for the first time after constitutional court ruled them unconstitutional earlier this year, so, known for our love of humour in politics, some 184.525 of us took it upon us to secure by a whisker the one EP seat to rule them all laymen for a professional satirist, Mr. Martin Sonneborn of Die PARTEIWP!!!!

:yahoo

Yeah, the results in France are shocking.

And unfortunately, I am not hugely surprised by now. France has been seriously flirting with NF for more than a decade.

Sadly, when her father was the leader back 20 years ago, I joked to a genuinely scared Jewish friend, that it was just a 'Flash in le Pen'- could and did not imagine this.

On the plus side I suppose, they are not a military power flexing any muscle.

But still.

Yes, once a left-wing French friend of mine was complaining about Jacques Chirac, and I told him that I bet he still voted for him. "Of course I did! I had to!"

It would suck to be in the position of having to hold your nose and vote Chirac.

And it sucks that people have to vote for the useless idiots of the mainstream parties to keep out UKIP.

Which actually happened when Chirac was re-elected for presidency. The left vote was fragmented in the first round between several candidates, and neither Jospin of the PS nor any other left candidate passed the votes of Le Pen. So the second round was between Chirac and Le Pen. The results showed that indeed, most of the left voters went out and voted Chirac in the second round.
