Undocumented students find new voice

On the other hand, I certainly think that this woman should be given citizenship if she wants it. Just because she entered illegally as a small child in her parent's custody and control shouldn't put her in the same boat as someone who willingly sneaks in as an adult. Additionally, she seems to be proving herself a productive and socially well adjusted individual.

Well, yes. I agree to a certain extent. But there are plenty of people from all over the world who try to immigrate to the U.S. through legal means but are turned down. They would be just as productive and well-adjusted as she has been.

It still seems wrong to me that someone who is getting these benefits from an illegal venture, whether a willing participant or not, is stopping others (who are trying to go through the proper channels) from getting the same opportunity. That's just going to encourage more of the same.

I grew up in California and I thought immigration was a great thing. Legal immigration that is.

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it was for us to deal with that nightmare of bureaucray and paperwork known as the INS when applying for my Japanese wife's greencard and then watching politicians snap their fingers an issue amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegals because they're courting the Hispanic vote.

And while I'm thinking about it, here's one more gripe:

"One-time Amnesty" that is never just "one time" and only encourages others to bypass the legal process to just get in the country and wait. While, as noted in the post above, those trying to enter through the legal route get shafted.
