Ummmmm Yes, Glenn Beck has stooped to an all time low...

This is nowhere near as bad as him saying he hates the families of 911 victims.

This still isn't cool, though.

You don't think he was being sacarstic?

No. Read about the way the Mormon church considers being overweight to be a Sin, and denies full membership to those who are overweight.
It is just another example of Beck's pushing of Mormon viewpoints coming forward.

Glenn Beck makes fun of his own fatness quite a bit so he is not delulded in "that" fact

Knowing some of the outlandish idiocy Beck has professed more recently, I would say no!

Knowing Beck's style of delivery and the context in which he said it, I'd say yes. His was implying that this is the sort of logic that government-run health care will lead to. So unless you think that Beck supports government-run health care (in which case, where have you been for the past two years?), then it's pretty obvious that he was being sarcastic.

Do countries with "socialized" health care have to eat what the government tells them? Or would Beck's apocalyptic America be a world first?

If the stupid git thinks that the Democrats want to triage the GOP out of existance, maybe it would be better for the gene pool that he go on a fugu liver diet, or take up playing Russian roulette with a Tokarev.

I'm not trying to defend Beck's position, I'm trying to clarify what it is. And contra the OP, it's not that he thinks fat people should die.

Would you agree that he favors fat people dying over him having to pay for socialized health care?

That's what I took from what he said. He doesn't want them to die - that, as you said, isn't his point. Rather, it's that he doesn't want to be forced into paying for their health. If those people die in the old system with him not having to pay for socialized health care, then so be it.

No, I don't think that's an accurate characterization. First, I think his use of fat people as an example is basically just a rhetorical means to exaggerate what he thinks the problem is. And I don't think he's really saying that he is personally willing to let people die rather than pay money. Rather, I think he's saying that when people are forced to pay for the care others receive, they have an incentive to deny care, and will do so. In other words, it's the old argument that socialized medical care leads to rationing.

Again, I'm not trying to defend the argument, only clarify what I think it is.

I think you're correctly explaining his position. What I don't understand is why he must involve fat people in the argument. It can't do him anything aside from losing a few of his customers, I mean viewers. He can be anti-socialized health care without explicitly saying the fattest people should die.

Hmm....of course if you want to watch the actual section I linked to you'll see that the primary thrust is the issue of government control or "nudging" of people away from foods that lead them to be fat.

So are you just beating up on the messenger?

Beck's opinion is that you have the right to eat whatever you want and get as fat as you want to, but that right now the government is implementing policy to limit these rights.
