UK - Election 2015

There should be some sort of fallout from intentionally misleading adverts in politics.
If this was commercial advertising, could they get away with it?

Buy our shampoo, as this other leading brand will destroy your hair!
Buy Coke, as Pepsi will make your legs fall off!
Can't see it, somehow.

Self-promoting is to be expected, but we get enough propaganda in elections from the media.
The leading parties are becoming more ridiculous with every campaign.

The revolution in Scottish politics, if that's what is happening, is a very serious matter indeed for the UK establishment. You could have a situation where the governing party in the UK has not a single seat, and HM Loyal Opposition is reduced to a tiny rump, in Scotland. Her Majesty will stop purring at Cameron. I dread to think what the Establishment parties will do in response. We've had smears already, as well as ridiculous advertising. I trust matters will go no further, though the suggestion aired in the Forum here, that parties trying to divide the country should have no share in governance, is quite ominous.

They'll probably just form a coalition government with each other.
There's not a massive difference between them anyway, despite what they'd like people to believe.
Being able to use the likes of UKIP and the SNP as an excuse will suit them, too.

We didn't want to work with that lot, but we love the Union!
We didn't want to work with that lot, but we need to stand against the racists!

At least by accusing Ed of stabbing his brother in the back, the Conservatives have answered the question of whether he is "tough enough" :p

@ Francesca R. It depends entirely on the Unionist parties.
Disagreed I don't believe the SNP will advance the neverendum demand under any post 7/5 circumstance (assuming they are in a position to issue demands). As I said we only have to wait four weeks to find this out.

That would have been my answer if I was Ed actually. At least, it beats Blair's one of Ed being tough enough to not allow an EU referendum

My link text sums it up: He won the Labour leadership election over his brother so he will do a deal with the SNP to get rid of Trident. It is that simple - BBC link to the story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/32227680

ETA: Better link to the more detailed report: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2015-32231115

Another example of the stupidity of UK politics.
The one party that's actually done a deal with another to gain power saying that doing such a thing is a terrible betrayal.

Au contraire Ed doesn't do deals. Even if it's family he knifes opponents and leaves them in the dirt

There's no such thing as bad publicity in this realm.

;)

Stupidity in one sense but I am sure that the "betrayed his brother" meme was well tested by Crosby and the like and they found it "resonated" with key voters. (Quotes around "resonated" because I've been listening to too much of the media reporting on the media reporting and I'm sick of hearing it!)

Ah ha, finally lifted myself out of my slow start to the day and was able to properly parse the meaning.

Cheers for the links.

Warning don't try to parse Fallon's er... logic, every time I do my brain throws up an divide by zero error and I have to reboot it.

Yes I am getting a bit concerned that the Humber Bridge will start oscillating weirdly and then snap.
