UK - December 2019 General Election

The SNP just made it easier for a lot of people not to have to hold their noses while voting for them in this election. They left out the bit of the manifesto where they effectively say they will allow any man who signs a bit if paper to become a woman and have access to all women's single-sex spaces and categories.

The resident wokemaidens, who seem to have lost a battle over this one, are running around telling all their rainbow-haired friends that it's all fine, nothing to see here, this is a devolved matter and not relevant to a Westminster manifesto and we'll press right ahead with it in Holyrood, you'll see.

But the missing policy paragraph was present in the 2017 manifesto, and also, interestingly, in the June EU election manifesto. The omission is a positive decision, it's not just not there because it's devolved. I think there's a bit of a split high up, and somebody or somebodies in a position of influence have been able to get it through what a toxic vote-loser this policy is. People are beginning to catch on to what is intended, which isn't clear from the anodyne wording, and there's a lot of concern. I think there's some realisation that there are a lot more angry women and parents among the electorate than there are terminally woke SJWs.

I also believe the bit about supporting an amendment to the 2010 Equalities Act (which is reserved as it happens) to change the definition of female to include biological males has been dropped. There's a long way to go before sense returns to this debate, especially with Nicola Sturgeon being right up :eek:there with the rest of the wokemaidens absolutely gagging to surrender all women's rights to men, but it's a straw in the wind. And I believe something similar has happened in the Labour party too.

Yay! A win for bigots and bigotry everywhere! Let's all party like its 1899.

A small straw in the wind that people are starting to understand what's going on and the threat to women and children. You may not agree but the concern is widespread, growing and significant. Biological sex matters and most people understand that. The attempts of multiple political parties to slide this through under the radar with pronouncements that women's rights aren't affected have been rumbled. Your mileage clearly varies, but when numbers of voters are the concern, you're in the minority.

Cool, mob rule it is then. Let's chuck out the brown folks next.

Oh sure. Letting biological men legally acquire the status of female on demand is just the same as being welcoming to immigrants from the Commonwealth. How did I not see it.

You were the one who said it's only votes that matter.

Lying to people to stoke up fear and then pandering to the fears you created. Sound familiar?

Boris has offered to appear on the Marr show this weekend.
BBC should accept the offer and then live on air, Marr should get up and swap places with Neill.
What would Johnson do then?

Michael Gove demanding Channel 4 News allow him to replace Boris Johnson in the Climate Debate. Been told no.
Apparently he flounced off from the Green Room but no sign of Boris who is supposed to be taking part.
Stanley Johnson Boris' dad and supportive of tonight’s debate also asking to stand in for Boris.
Debate hasn't even started yet!

I thought it a nice touch where Michael Gove accused Channel 4 of being scared to debate a real Conservative.

But you were too scared to debate a Conservative and preferred to be challenged by a giant ice cube

Quotes from the Cons.

If we are re-elected we will have to review Channel 4’s Public Services Broadcasting obligations.

Broadcasting organisations are rightly held to a higher standard — and particularly Channel 4 which has a special role enshrined in legislation.

Any review would of course look at whether its remit should be better focused so it is serving the public in the best way possible.

Channel 4 get a share of the TV license money as a 'Public Broadcaster'

Wont make the slightest bit of a difference Johnson will still win.

I'm afraid you're right.

I fear so. But how much can he and his lot get away with post-election and post-Brexit? Where more chunks of the NHS are actually being sold off and the price of medicines goes through the roof because we've struck a supply deal with the US? (The latter being just one example in a sea of possible examples. )

It strikes me that his/their lust for power has blinded them to the s*** storm they'll have to deal with in the end. The UK is not the USA, where party loyalty is (it seems) the be-all. Mr Redfaced Brexit might change his tune when his diabetes shots are subject to a hefty prescription surcharge and there's meat rationing threatening the Sunday roast.

With both Labour and the Tories having getting rid of FTPA in their manifestos, presumably they'll simply revert to what they used to do, and do all the bad stuff the elecorate hates in their first year of power, and then spending the next four years hoping its all either been forgotten in the meantime, or it's been diluted by doing stuff the electorate approves of.

While polls should always be treated with caution, especially in system like the UK's where a high % in the polls doesn't always translate to MP's, I've seen some suggesting a Tory majority as high as 80, in which case Johnson can go all-out on a hard brexit if he wants to, without having to worry about what few rebels remain in the party.

Yeah, the leader who turned up was the scared one. Or is he saying that Alexander 'Empty Chair' Johnson isn't a real Conservative? (Admittedly a number of very senior ex-Conservatives may agree).

Incidentally, would anyone else sooner have a giant ice cube as PM than Boris Johnson?

He learnt his lesson in the leadership campaign, the less Johnson is seen and heard the better the electorate think about him.
