UFOs invade Bournemouth (with video)

Dorset police confirmed they had received 'a few' calls and suggested it could possibly be a meteor shower. They are discounting the possibility of a military cause because, they say, the services inform them if they are conducting exercises at night in the area.

There's also some (not tremendously helpful) home video footage. I pass this on mainly because I am an ex-resident of Bournemouth, and was amused by one of the reader comments (as ever, a mixed bag of the waggish and idiotic) about 'lay lines' [sic] converging on Charminster cemetry.
 
Unidentified Flying Objects are real. Whether or not those objects are alien in origin is another matter.

Why do people always assume some light in the sky that isn't moving is a ufo? If it isn't moving in some completely implausible manner I don't see how you could assume that it is anything but of terrestrial origin. They certainly don't look like meteorites though.

The first part of the video showed a pattern that looked a lot like the Big Dipper and then they panned to what looks to me like a planet but I'm not sure which.

If those "lights" are moving, they are doing so very slowly as they don't seem to be changing their position relative to the planet.

The video is so shakey and shot at such an extreme zoom, it's hard to say, but I think their just a bunch of stars and a planet.

At 10:00 PM local time, Ursa Major was up by the zenith.

Venus and Mercury would have been visible with clear views of the horizon to the WNW. The witnesses in the article, though, claim the "strange" objects they saw were elsewhere in the sky.

"There were about six of these bright orange lights to the right of the moon. It was an amazing sight and I was completely bemused."
...
"We saw five or six lights in the south-south-east, initially in a wide triangle and then in wide crescent formation - then they went into a straight line."

The stupid off-voice comment of that woman in the video makes me sick.

"Strange*1 lights were seen moving in bizarre*2 formations. Police*3 say, they were not informed of any military*4 activity. Leaving one [big pause for drama] possible explanation*5."

*1 Strange? What exactly is strange about those orange lights?
*2 Bizarre? Those lame movements are bizarre?
*3 Police! Authority! Alert!
*4 OMG, even more authority, the military!

Ah, well it was a shot. Still I really can't see how they were moving, or moving very much, they seemed to be in the same general location for the whole video clip.

You will find that people use the term UFO to mean "Unidentified Flying Object" as well as "of extraterrestrial origin". FYI.

My son and I were visiting a friend of mine in Weyauwega. I am reluctant to reveal the exact location out of concern for my friend's privacy as well as my own. However the general location is just North of Main street on the East side of 110 and South of the train tracks. My boy was sledding in the snow and I was taking pictures. It was in the evening and was starting to get dark pretty quickly. My son pointed up to the sky and we noticed some lights coming in from what I believe is the south west. At that point I just pointed the camera up and took the shots. The object really gave me the impression of a balloon - except for the lights. They seemed to cycle all different patterns. The object passed almost directly overhead (picture 1) and then headed south towards the train tracks (picture 2). As the object passed I could make out more of a disk shape than a balloon shape. I just remember my son asking me over and over what it was and I didn't have a clue.

If it isn't a star constellation seen under unusual atmospheric conditions, I think it likely that the Bournemouth sighting is a bunch of fire balloons, released as a prank.
 
I don't doubt he saw something, but I get this strange feeling it's something odd with those last pictures. I'm not skilled enough with photoshop though so I can't tell for certain if thats a UFO or flying saucer.

You're joking right?

The triangle formation clearly changes. Look at the angles at the beginning of the clip and then look at them when the camera guy zooms out at the end. You can even see one of them moving during the clip.
 
Okay boys and girls I have it sorted - The constellation is Gemini - the bright cresent object is Venus, and the orange smaller object seen about halfway through is Mercury
