Ah, my oil flare theory is still causing trouble, I see...
I also see that Captain Franz is still getting the sole credit for it too.... but I posted the theory here only a couple of days after the release of the footage to the media.
That was two weeks before he posted the same theory over at virtuallystrange.net, so priority belongs to me as far as I know.
Chalk this up as a victory for the JREF forum!
I actually sent Franz a friendly e-mail a couple of months ago with more information to help him out against critics as my own investigation was much further along... but he never replied.
Hmmm... well, I'd point out that he and other people still seem to just focus on the main group of infrared objects and ignore the radar objects, the other infrared objects and the airborne radar/infrared object.
Something else any explanation needs is to realize that the initial radar/infrared object is not only airborne but is also travelling at several hundred knots and so is therefore unlikely to be an oil-rig.
It's an aircraft as it travels between two runways, and it draws the aircrews' attention to the area with the oil flares just as the aircraft goes off the radar. That's why the aircrew start thinking all these infrared sources that appear in a similar direction are also flying as they have no radar signals to tell them altitude but the aircrew think that's because these infrared objects are just out of radar range too.
Oil flare theory alone doesn't explain the whole incident, it's just for the main group of infrared objects and perhaps other, isolated infrared objects. The last couple of radar objects and perhaps also other infrared objects are not related to the main oil-field flares and remain unexplained.
I don't know if anyone other than myself and those who read my previous thread in this forum on this issue realize that. I haven't read anything yet to suggest anyone does.
