I am trying to installing Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop but it goes to the screen that looks like a wallpaper with a curser after the purple screen that says "Ubuntu 10.10" with 4 lights. How do u fix this.

After installing? If so, it may be booting to the console. Try typing startx and hit <enter>.

Sort of a canned response:
Make sure that you have downloaded a good and intact ISO. You can verify this via MD5 checksum. And then make sure that you burn a good CD.

ETA: In case you have graphics problems, I do rememeber that Ubuntu offers an install CD with a text based installer.
