Once again reality strikes Obama.

U.S. May Revive Guantánamo Military Courts

The Obama administration is moving toward reviving the military commission system for prosecuting Guantánamo detainees, which was a target of critics during the Bush administration, including Mr. Obama himself
<SNIP>

Officials who work on the Guantánamo issue say administration lawyers have become concerned that they would face significant obstacles to trying some terrorism suspects in federal courts. Judges might make it difficult to prosecute detainees who were subjected to brutal treatment or for prosecutors to use hearsay evidence gathered by intelligence agencies.

But in recent days a variety of officials involved in the deliberations say that after administration lawyers examined many of the cases, the mood shifted toward using military commissions to prosecute some detainees, perhaps including those charged with coordinating the Sept. 11 attacks.

“The more they look at it,” said one official, “the more commissions don’t look as bad as they did on Jan. 20.”

Several officials insisted on anonymity because the administration has directed that no one publicly discuss the deliberations

I take it that this rumor makes you furious at the thought that Obama may betray all your deeply-held liberal principles.

Nonetheless, before you start banging on about how your politically-correct principles have been betrayed, perhaps you should wait and see if this is what they are in fact going to do.

Then you can raise your customary scream of liberal outrage.

Nope I applaud his recognition of reality.

Kinder, gentler torture will find a way.

Commissions are a form of court, in case you were wondering.

About five and a half years ago, I was on a short list to be sent to that detail. As it worked out, there were enough bugs in the system then that I instead got sent off to a war.

Life is a funny old dog.

So you're one of those crazed Obama-worshipers who thinks he can do no wrong?

Nonetheless, if I were you, I should wait and see if he actually does what is suggested in this rumor before you start worshiping him for doing it.

So you feel that reality is a foreign concept to Obama? Report to re-education immediately.

This does not mean that the Commissions will act under the rules laid out by Gonzo, Rummy and the Shrub. They may actually employ rules of evidence that lead to a rational conclusion.

To give a man a fair trial, he must have access to some information about who said he was a terrorist or whatever. This sort of thing could be of national security significance. If it is accurate, the name of a useful intelligence operative could come out in public. If it turns out that a rival for the hand of a desireable young woman figured out a way to be rid of the better man, I would hope it did come out so that the slimey rat who dropped a dime on an innocent man needs to run for his life from the wronged party's family.

Long and short of it is that, with the old kakiocrats gone from the DoJ and DoD, there is a chance that a few simple presidential directives could give them a fair trial.

Also, there is the chance that the secrecy will allow the administration to keep secret from Rummy and Cheney and Gonzo any evidence that might come to light of their abuse of the system before Holder grows a pair and indictes them for war crimes.

It took you this long to come up with that apologia? LOL.

Before dreams of perp walks dance in your head here is KSM before the GITMO tribunal. I don't think the previous administration is going to have to sweat Holder opening up that can of worms:

1 hereby admit and affirm without duress to the following:

I. I swore Bay’aat (i.e., allegiance) to Sheikh Usama Bin Laden to conduct Jihad of self and money, and also Hijrah (i.e., expatriation to any location in the world where Jihad is required).
2. I was a member of the Al Qaida Council.
3. I was the Media Operations Director for Al-Sahab, or ‘The Clouds,’ under Dr. Ayman AlZawahiri. Al-Sahab is the media outlet that provided Al-Qaida-sponsored information to Al Jazeera. Four.”

Read the whole thing. This guy is proud of what he did.
