Typical Trump Supporters

Trump just wants to get the US back on track to when we were envied by other countries and self supporting like making our own products and not importing cheap junk from China

What conditions would make America envied by other countries?

Specifically, what conditions do you think Trump sees as necessary and sufficient to make other countries envious of the U.S.A.

Only by white, Christian men. It pretty much sucked for everyone else.

to Trump supporters no one else matters but white, Christian men.

wait, maybe he's referring to the 90% marginal tax rate on the rich? perhaps Colonel wants to tax the rich? Or he wants the strong industrial unions that existed then?? :p

They were not called the good ole days for nothing :)

And in the 1950's Women , Blacks,Hispanics and Asians knew their place.....

And,yes I think a lot of the "take our country back" really means "Put White European Males back in total control of the country"...

I have a theory that people on the Right see the 50's through rose colored glasses, and people on the Left see the Sixties through rose colored glasses, both ignoriing the reality.

From 5 to 25, I saw from '50 to '70 (and then beyond) and with no rosy color - just what they were good and bad... TV was great, movies were too, lot's of good books and magazines much rich data!!!!

Growing up in the 50's and 60's was fun especially living on a farm in farming country.

Born in W.VA and lived there (in Charleston spending time out around Elkview where family farm was ). And visited often from Nashville after we moved there just in time for me to start school. Lived city but a lot in the country!!!

That was '46-mid-60s counting trips even when in college!! Love W.Va:):)

I am good on both of those!!!! Though I'd be willing to drop the tax to 82% with no exemptions.

If Trump's goal is to make other countries envious of the U.S., then he needs to drop out of the race. No country on Earth is going to be envious of a country that elects Donald "no, you're a loser" Trump.

Furthermore, drastically reducing imports from China and the rest of Asia will not make other countries jealous.

People really think having Donald Trump as president will make other nations envious of the US? ^^

I have yet to see a "typical" Trump supporter emerge. A lot seem to be involved just for the excitement or to fulfill a need for a strong authoritarian figure, or a stern daddy as I have said elsewhere.

Much of the trivially inane policy he is spouting really may be for followers a lot like the fantasy of "Just wait till your dad get's home, young man!" Problems will be solved when the feared leader gets elected. His praise and love for certain groups is just feel good phony pap. Just a hypothesis that needs more work.

Now, Jeb! has identified certain weaknesses in the Trump shell of seeming invincibility. Remember that rich guy Howard Hughes? Surrounded himself with Mormons. Defied congress. Dared to be great. He was a germaphobe, and a very weird guy to those who knew him. Uh oh... Now for the "Which candidate are you?" quiz.

Bush Gets Personal With ‘Germophobe’ Attack on Trump

In a strikingly personal attack, the quiz asks voters whether they would prefer a candidate who “is a germophobe [sic] when it comes to shaking hands,” a reference to Trump’s documented phobia, Bush, meanwhile is cast as a candidate who “strives to shake every hand everywhere.”

What will this do to the base of "typical Trumpies" image of him as "one of them"? Connecting the dots to Howard Hughes might be just a little disturbing for the masses. Are they ready for a president who is afflicted with an obsessive compulsive disorder?

What is scary is that (GODWIN ALERT! GODWIN ALERT) this was the mentality of a lot of the people who supported Hitler in Germany during his rise to power. That he really did not mean what he said about the Jews and would moderate his policies when he got into power. And we know where that led.
Frankly, even if it's just rhetoric, anybody who uses bigotry as a poltical weapon, whether he really means it or not,is not fit for public office, period.let alone the Presidency of the United States.

You are asking this as if it's hypothetical or conditional?

I've been trying to avoid the Godwin parallel, but Trump is actually if nothing else, unabashedly and proudly fascistic, in the authoritarian or totalitarian sense. He elevates bigotry, not even religious bigotry, to an art form, in a way that a Huckabee will never quite match.

...Trump’s positions on the issues are largely irrelevant to his success. None of his supporters care whether a wall across Mexico is remotely feasible or that he regularly flip-flops on the issues. What he is selling is attitude and a certain fascistic form of leadership. He will get things done, his supporters believe. And it’s less important what he will do than that he will do something.
Some Republicans seem genuinely enthralled with a "politician" who actually wants to do something...anything in opposition to their experience with a congress of their own making that cannot do anything.

Additionally, Republicans are suffering from the gridlock that they themselves caused. We all know that nature abhors a vacuum, but I think it abhors gridlock as well. That has always been the appeal of fascism and it would be very foolish to believe that Americans are immune from its attractive qualities of getting things done that need to get done. And let us not forget that Trump is talking about genuine problems even if his solutions are simplistic or even wrongheaded.
Trump is also able to define arcane or potential problems for which he can then claim eventual though evanescent solutions. "Government is broken", is a favorite line which of course does not entail an explanation of who has broken it, nor how it will be fixed. It sounds at times as if Trump will govern by presidential fiat rather than by working with a congress loaded with "stupid leaders", something for which he upbraids Obama of course.
