The voting will be done. The election won't be over. The "fun" will be just beginning. It's going to get "interesting".
Fraud claims will start election night, if not before.
Recounts will be demanded.
Right-wing state and local agencies, like sheriff departments, may attempt to seize ballots.
Lawsuits will be filed. Dozens of them. Most will be thrown out.
Trump will whine loud and long about how the dumocrats are cheating him again. Him personally.
DHS and DOJ may well attempte to interfere with vote counting.
Republican legislatures may attempt to overturn results.
And finally Trump will probably call for a mob to attack the capitol again on January 3. He's done it before and got away with it.

It's not going to be pleasant.

Note to mods: This thread is intended to be about Republican efforts to overturn results, unlike the more general one I started a while back. If it's deemed better to merge, that's ok too.

Democrats will be seated maybe after a little pushback or failed court attempts, but it won't take long. I don't see seizing voting machines, martial law, another Jan 4, etc. Democrats are already planning for every contingency should they try to stop it. Jan 4 didn't work then and it's not going to work now; they'll be more than prepared for an insurrection-style event at the Capitol. Basically it will just take a little longer than usual, IMO.

Oops, yes. I just think that it's going to be such a drubbing that GOP will take the opportunity to start distancing themselves from Trump; he will have become too toxic for even his own party to support. You know they secretly despise him.

Yeah, I'm sure they loathe him now...but when was the last time a Republican corrected a mistake they made instead of doubling, tripling down on it?

He's never been this unpopular before - it's uncharted waters. If he starts affecting their electability they'll break - many of them are distancing themselves already.

I sincerely hope you are right but very much fear otherwise

Trump has no intention of ever leaving the White House. He's made that clear.
[Press]: Mr President! How are you going to handle your predecessor refusing to leave the White House?
[President]: I've drawn inspiration from one of our great American authors, Edgar Allan Poe, and granted my predecessor's wish to never leave the building again.

He didn't want to leave the first time, organizing a violent mob to attack the Capitol to get his way.
He will try something else, but it will fail, and just like last time he will leave, stealing everything he can in the process and trashing the rest.

Its true that some have distanced themselves a little (such as erasing him from campaign materials for the midterm elections). But we will have to wait and see if they take a more active role in actually criticizing him post-midterms.

Its true that Trump won't be on the ballot in 2028. He may not even be alive by then, and if he is he certainly won't hold much influence with non-republican voters.. But GOP congress critters might still fear alienating the MAGAchud base of the party in case it causes problems in the future.

Remember, despite Senator John Cornyn getting 'primaried' by Trump (and thus not even being up for re-election in 2026) and having every reason to take on a more adversarial role, he still voted to confirm Blanche for Attorney General. A perfect opportunity to get some revenge on Trump and perhaps start redeeming his reputation, yet he stuck by Trump in the end. Real beta-male energy there.

If you are right, then thank God for the Second Amendment, because if Democracy is ever to be restored, ti will be by force of arms.
I am not conviced you are right, though, given you are very fond of being Cassandra.

Trump says a lot, but he also folds easily. He's a bully and he'll try something stupid like harassing Democratic winners with clogging lawsuits and such. He'll make a lot of noise but ultimately he's a gutless, pathetic coward who will fold.
