Merged Two Mosques to be built near Ground Zero

Okay. First, there is a relief of Mohammed on one of the main government buildings, I forget if it's the Capitol or the Supreme Court.

Second, I think it would be very wise to include mosques inside tall buildings as insurance against flying into them. And maybe an ice cream store called the Mosque Cow, with Russian employees, to infuse the general area with capitalism.

Community Board is voting whether or not to approve the construction of a 13 story Muslim community center, with a Mosque included, near the World Trade Center.

One man, when intereviewed said: "not only should a Mosque NOT be built near the WTC, but I personally think they should only build Mosques in Saudi Arabia. Muslims have abdicated any right to be called a religion".

Not exactly sure what this old fool was talking about, but it does sadden me that he was indeed Jewish.

um.....the Department of Buildings?

districts are zoned..and all new buildings must fit within zoning regulations.

clearly, a 13 story building is not too tall for that area. and a religious institution is not inappropriate as there are two very famous 18th century churches right by the WTC.

so basically, this is a done deal. unless they wanna go on record as being anti-Muslim.
 
up..........I must now do a complete 180 on this issue.

to build the mosque, they would have to first tear down a 150 year old building. i am TOTALLY against destroying New York's architectural heritage.

sorry folks, build it somewhere where you dont have to destroy a building built in 1860 in the Italian Renaissance palazzo style.

No it isn't. The Christian law inherently indicates that worshiping other Gods is fine (you just have to put the Christian God first if you're a Christian). The mentioned Islamic statement is entirely different. It's a statement of fact (rather than a directive), and it indicates that no other Gods deserve any worship at all.

It's also completely incorrect.

La ilaha ila allah:

La (No) Ilaha (God) Ila (but) Allah (God).

Nothing in there about nobody having the right to worship other gods. A complete look at the shahada can be found on Wikipedia. It is simply a statement of belief in God, not a political credo.

As a former military man who has served in the middle east, I saw that a mosque being built on or near ground zero is not offensive to me. Keep in mind; Only a handful of muslims are extremists. For every muslim who has attacked us, there are probably a hundred or more who have not. Most muslims are peaceful people.

The fact is, Judaism is the only Western faith that believes one can be of a totally other religion, and still be accepted and rewarded by God. Judaism has the Laws of Noah, which are laws that all non-Jews must follow. Non-Jews are NOT required to believe in our God..at all.

If 1% of Muslims attack us, we're in trouble. There are 1.5 billion Muslims! :)
 
My point is that the percentage is much less than 1%, because I don't believe that there are 15 million Muslims attacking us. That would be the largest guerrilla army the world has ever scene. Geez, Louise, Parky/Thunder, you don't even seem to be able to comprehend the posts that agree with you!

Seen, and if I may add, most guerillas take a great deal of care trying not to be seen. ;)
