Many have been using the twitter hashtag #TAM2012, and I think that the JREF has been promoting that hash tag, but it appears that at least two other events have been using the hash tag #TAM2012, including a conference of the Texas Association Of Museums, which is currently having their 2012 conference.

We've used TAMinfo the past couple of years. I haven't seen where JREF is promoting the other one, but it might be a good suggestion for them to change.

#TAM2012 is the official hashtag for TAM being promoted via the lanyrd site. It wouldn't be the first time a hashtag was ambiguous; the big problem would be if other events were using the same one at the same time.

The Tennessee Association of Museums used it, but their conference was last week.

I looked into this too, it does appear that it was just the Texas event that was using it, and it was last week. I think we're going to be OK with #TAM2012.

I've heard claims of other events in Tennessee and elsewhere using it too, but when I dug into those on Twitter it appeared those were actually out-of-state attendees to the Texas event, or folks following along via Twitter.

One way to help insure it stays clear for our use in July: USE IT. If people see it being used for something else, they'll back off. It's also good for the event to talk about it in advance, it helps build interest.

FYI, a while back I set up a page for TAM2012 on Epilogger. One of the things this site does is cache the Twitter and blog activity relating to the event, so you can see it going back farther than in Twitter Search (which only goes back a few days).

Judging from what I'm seeing on Epilogger, we pretty much own #TAM2012 now. I don't think there's going to be a problem with that hashtag.

Note: those of you who use Google Plus, they now support hashtags over there too.

I'm such a luddite. My phone is not very smart. Can I just follow you around, Tim?

#TAMinfo was used for announcements and scheduling meetups but TAM2012 (or its equivalent for that year) has been used for general tweet-casting.

Well @TAMInfo was an account that you had to follow.

#TAM2012 is a hashtag that you can search on to find activity.

Two different use cases, really.
