Exactly. You need someone to make you pay more taxes. You aren't going to do it of your own volition.
You'll vote for more taxes, even on yourself, but you won't pay them voluntarily. That's... weird.

Why weird? Why should anybody put himself at a disadvantage to anybody else? The point of regulation, taxation etc. is that the same rules apply to everybody for the common good. If you want to argue that the government should operate on voluntary contributions, or fees should be charged for every service provided, that's a different discussion.
