Trump's Second Term

Oct 30 (Reuters) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying on Friday that inviting Poland to attend G20 meetings was counter-productive and broke with diplomatic practice of ‌seeking consensus at such gatherings.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told reporters in Atlanta that the US had made a motion to make Poland a permanent G20 member and Warsaw was lobbying for that.

"Of course, this violates the principles of diplomacy, and especially multilateral diplomacy, when members of associations such as the G20 work on the basis of consensus," Lavrov told reporters on the sidelines of a G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, according to Russian news agencies.

Thank you Trump for this ****.

Re: Mike Johnson claims of Democrats supporting young kids getting trans surgery without parental consent...
I don't understand why the Democrats are not suing Johnson for repeating this lie over and over again.
There is a lot of first amendment protection, especially for "political speech" (unfortunately that may even when what is said is a blatant lie).

Not only would they have to prove the statement was wrong (that part is easy, although Johnson might have some way to weasel out of that), but they would probably have to prove actual damages, and that the statement was done with malice, that he knew it was wrong, etc.

Democrats may have looked at the chance of success, and the harm that would come from losing and decided it wasn't worth it.

I am usually quite critical of stuff that Stubby McBonespurs does... But I don't have any real complaints about having Poland involved in the G20.

Its economy sits at 21st in the world (according to Wikipedia), which actually puts it higher than Argentina (a country which is a member). Its also a democracy and an active member of the EU and NATO, and its economy is currently growing faster than that of the United States..

And if Russia objects? Well, they should be treated as a pariah state on account of their military action against Ukraine. So who cares what they think?

Never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake
Unfortunately it may not necessarily be a "mistake".

I know its a lie. Probably everyone here on this forum knows its a lie. But it would only be a "mistake" for the republicans if it harms them instead of helps them, and I am not sure it does.

For some strange reason, "trans issues" seem to have this weird place in north american society that seems to result in many (even rational) people adopting completely irrational attitudes. (I have even seen it here in Canada, with friends/family who dislike Trump but still object to "men playing women's sports".) And with no real successes that the republicans can brag about, attacking the trans community is about the only thing they have left.

And the thing is, how many lives does men in women's sports affect? I mean really, how often does it happen to the point where it causes this much outrage. You'd think it's happening on on every sports field in the country by the existential danger they say it poses. It's getting offended just for the sake of getting offended.

The other thing to keep in mind...

One of the reasons republicans claim to be against Trans rights is to "protect women" from the evil Trans community. But their current kult leader was found to have committed sexual assault in a court of law, was good friends with Epstein, and famously said you can just "grab women" and they will let you do it if you're famous.

Republicans: "Vote for us because we will protect women"

Also republicans: "The man we worship as our leader is a rapist"

One problem, which people who don’t understand or care about sport dismiss, is with contact sports like boxing and various codes of football, women are in disproportionate danger of injury from players who were born men and have greater, on average, physical strength.

Unfairness is an obvious problem, but chance of injury is worse.

It's a statistical non-issue.
Politicians are wasting time and taxpayer money to focus so much on something that pertains to about 1 in 100.000 athletes.

First of all, the vast majority of sports (especially at the college level) are non-contact sports. Track and field events, swimming/diving, soccer, tennis, volleyball, figure skating, skiing, etc. either have people participate individually (and assigned a time/score/etc.), or if there is a direct competition there is little or no chance of actual physical interaction, or physical interactions are greatly regulated. So claiming "but... but... the trans athlete will hurt the cisgender woman" is mostly a disingenuous argument.

Secondly, I think it has yet to be proven that trans athletes actually do have an "unfair advantage". Depending on the rules of the sport, they often have to take hormones that wipe out much of their strength advantage, yet they have to compete with a bigger frame/skeleton but with less muscles.

Try saying that to women beaten by Lia Thomas or women hurt by natal male Rugby players.
Ah yes, Lia Thomas, the patron saint of Trans bigots everywhere.

Yes, Thomas won swimming championships after her transitioning. But what people seem to not understand is that she was actually quite successful BEFORE her transitioning too (regularly winning swim meets early in her college career), and her times actually got significantly slower after her transitioning.

What this means is that her success is probably due to the fact that she was "a dedicated athlete with a natural swimming ability" rather than "She's a man competing against women"

Come off it. Lia Thomas had a ridiculous advantage over the women he competed against. As have countless other athletes who simply had to self ID, and had no hormone treatment.

compared to the harm done to women by spousal abuse, by exploitation, by Police Departments not investigating Rape cases and not running Rape Kits etc. etc., it is a non-issue. It happens so rarely that money and politics shouldn't be wasted on it until much more serious and widespread harm to women is taken seriously.
You are supporting violence against women by letting Trump&co get away with capturing the debate on harm to women on something that is astronomically rare instead of insisting that we talk about the real harm done to women.
As a Rule, politics should not be about single cases, especially not in a country of hundreds of millions.

Exactly what “transition” did Lia Thomas do? He is a fully intact male who has a girlfriend (which meant he could declare himself as a lesbian). But I understand why you wish he didn’t exist.

Thomas had hormone treatment.

From: https://abc7.com/post/lia-thomas-tr...lvania-swimmer-good-morning-america/11911743/
By 2019 though, at the end of her sophomore year, Thomas said she began hormone replacement therapy,... She continued, "And I lost muscle mass and I became a lot weaker and a lot, a lot slower in the water." Thomas began swimming on Penn's women's swimming team at the start of her senior year, following NCAA guidelines that athletes must complete one year of hormone replacement therapy to change gender categories.

If the bigots actually cared about "fairness" they would insist that all sports require hormone therapy for trans athletes (such as the NCAA does with swimming) rather than calling for an outright ban.

What???? I support violence against women? Take that cowardly and false accusation back. Or not. Your irrational posts can be amusing.
