Trump's Second Term

Michael Lewis is the author of the new book Blockers, which is about the civil servants who tried to slow down DOGE etc. There is an excerpt of his book at the Wall Street Journal about the US Institute of Peace. "Once they had control of the building, Nate and the other guys went rooting around in the institute’s computers. Elon Musk was given a crack at the fresh material. Then the DOGE account on X posted a list of their findings. The list was both interesting and true.

"But as it turned out, the bits that were interesting weren’t true, and the bits that were true weren’t interesting. For instance, the law that had created the institute required it to move any unused funds into its endowment—and so by law, for the past 40 years, that’s what they’d done. The institute was also required by law to hire an accountant to audit its books every year, so that it might report its spending to Congress. For those services it paid roughly $380,000 a year. The amount that DOGE accused the institute of spending on its accountants corresponded not to their accountants’ bill but to a six-year contract for legal services."

Trump's staff is now claiming that he was saying that Iran could have destroyed those cities if Trump hadn't stopped them, and the media and California politicians are overreacting.
So, they're saying he's babbling incoherently and nobody knows what he's actually saying?

"According to the White House, however, Trump was saying that American cities would have been threatened by Iran had he not launched a war there earlier this year."

"In a post on X, White House Communications Director Stephen Cheung described the "media freakout" over Trump's comments as "not rooted in reality"."

"A separate X post, from the official White House rapid response account, described journalists from the Los Angeles Times reporting on the comments as "buffoons" and again pushed back on the characterisation of the comments by Newsom and others.
"He was saying the US is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance," the account added."

Sweeping up Trump's fecal leavings again... Is being Donny's public ass-wipe the best you can be, Steve?

Umm, bull ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ ◊◊◊◊.

I'd suggest that they were preaching to the choir who were going to vote for literally any Republican anyway, the more mainstream channels by downplaying the difference between Trump and his opponants persuaded a significant proportion of the electorate that could have turned the result that it wasn't worth bothering, or, that they were so similar you might as well go with your preference for the white man who plays a businessman on TV over the career politician/woman/black woman.
The Democratic party keeping corporatist type republicans in all but name doesn't help their cause either.

it’s pretty likely for a overall drop in diesel prices but a significant hike in the price of red dyed diesel and additional costs to the industries that use it now
All allowing agri-diesel to be used for non agricultural purposes will do is raise the price of agri-diesel to be more line with normal stuff. It does not alter the amount of diesel in the supply chain, so it won't change the base price at all.

The only effect this will have is to lower the tax take for the government from diesel sales.
