The president of the European Commission has backed proposals for Canada to become the EU's first "associate member".

Ursula von der Leyen told the European Parliament on Wednesday she wanted to work on "opening the door" for Canada, which would involve closer ties on various key sectors.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney last week spoke of seeking a "unique alliance" with the EU. The country currently faces tense relations with the US, compounded by an intensifying dispute over trade.

Without mentioning US President Donald Trump by name, von der Leyen said offering Canada some sort of EU membership was "not a partnership against anyone else, but for our common strength".

Then I would stop trusting what duck ai has to say (or any AI chatbotfor that matter).

Looking at a searchable database of his holdings, he holds significant stock in the AI buildout. Everything from hyperscalers to chip makers to optical connection and hardware to electrification and data centre infrastructure names. I didn't spend the time to add it all up but just the chip and interconnect names I searched added up to over $5m and my search was not exhaustive.

I am thinking Trump and the MAGAchud are eager to replace government workers with Trump loyalists, and given the typical Demographics of the Trump supporter (you know, members of Y'all quaeda), the whole restriction on beastiality was causing a real problem with hirings.

Hundreds of FBI agents were fired or forced into retirement because they had been assigned to work on cases related to the January 6 insurrection or the collection of documents Trump was keeping in one of his bathrooms down in Florida. A thousand or more were so disgusted they just up and quit. So the FBI became dangerously short-handed.

Patel claims the FBI has been getting more job applicants than at any time in its history, but even if that's true it turned out that a very large proportion of those applicants were unqualified because they didn't have experience in law enforcement or ran afoul of one of the FBI's automatic disqualifiers, such as bestiality. How to solve the recruitment problem? Lower the standards.

Having committed beastiality used to be an automatic disqualifier when applying for a job at the FBI. Kash Patel changed the hiring standards so that it is no longer an automatic disqualification. He claimed that he was trying to protect trafficking victims who had been forced to engage in such acts. (are there a lot of trafficking victims applying to the FBI?) and didn't express himself well (surprise).
