The board – mostly handpicked, staunch allies of the president – voted “to close the Kennedy Center’s main building, while keeping a newer addition to the campus, known as the Reach, open for limited programming and to operate as an active memorial to John F Kennedy”, according to the New York Times, which was first to report the results.

Shortly after, the board also reportedly voted to add an inscription beneath the signage of the institution’s name that reads: “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J Trump.”

The officer corps, not so much (source: friend who just retired from the Army) but the enlisted folks don't surprise me. The military enlistment people go for recruits who mostly see service as a way to get out of whatever area of low opportunity they live in, with a sprinkling of people who actually see it as a patriotic duty. They are not always the best informed.

The CIA reportedly had “low confidence” in a warning from Israel that Iran might try to assassinate Donald Trump. That apparently didn’t matter much.

According to The Washington Post, U.S. intelligence officials received the warning from Israel ahead of Trump’s departure from Turkey following the NATO summit in Ankara. But officials reportedly didn’t consider the information particularly compelling when they passed it along to Trump administration officials.

Trump, however, believed he was in danger, so the Secret Service decided to put him at ease.

President Donald Trump reportedly wouldn’t stop harassing White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt during her brief maternity leave.

CNN White House correspondent Alayna Treene reported Wednesday that Trump had repeatedly called Leavitt while she was on maternity leave to have her second child. The president was apparently desperate to know when she would leave her children and return to her podium, Treene said, citing anonymous sources.

Treene also said that Leavitt’s decision took the administration by surprise, and Trump even asked her to stay.

That's interesting. I never knew the US tried it. I remember the UK trial at the end of the '60s when I first started school. Walking to school in the dark was weird. At least back then nobody drove their kids to our school so the roads were pretty safe.

I remember it well. I was on inactive reserve for the US Army and got called up for "annual summer training". At Fort Richardson, Alaska, in January of 1974. The sun came up at about 11:00 AM.
