I am so far from my area of expertise, that you can't see it over the horizon, and I know we have some actual subject experts here, but having skimmed the report I (unsurprisingly) can't see how they are justifying the comparison (72 vs 11)

As noted above, many doses are combined into a single shot (something that Trump seems to be AGAINST, with the move to split up MMR), and the reports included all immunization up to the age of 18, including routine annual flu shots for instance, which many countries do not recommend.

Also, one of the main tables of the report (Table 2) contains a comparison of doses, which yes, places the USA at the high end (84-88), but not really that much higher than many other countries (for example, the UK is 62) and can largely be simply explained by the fact that the US seem to be the only country that recommends an annual COVID vaccine. (which adds 18 to the US total). And these numbers are based on 'recommended' immunization - do we have data anywhere on the actual uptake of those immunizations?

I suspect there is a lot of cherry picking of data in order to make the US look "over vaccinated".

A disease that requires multiple vaccinations? Count each vaccination separately for the US number, but count them as a single vaccination for Europe.

A disease that uses a single vaccination for multiple diseases? Count them as multiple vaccinations for the US number, but as a single jab for Europe.

Something else that needs to be considered... the '11 vaccinations in europe'... where does that number come from? There is no single european standard, and each country sets its vaccination schedule according to local conditions. The UK may recommend a different number of vaccinations than Sweden or Italy, based on the diseases that are most prevalent in the country.

Brilliant idea... in a country where millions of americans have no health insurance at all, and even a minor ailment can lead to financial ruin, lets reduce vaccination rates to ensure more children catch preventable diseases and fill up hospital beds.
