July 24: Donald Trump on Friday ordered the interior department to display signs in front of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History that accuse the institution of inaccuracy. The order escalates the Trump’s attacks against the Smithsonian, which he and his allies accuse of politicizing the institution by focusing too much on injustices in American history, instead of more triumphant moments such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

July 26: The Pentagon quietly updated its casualty data base, the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), adding 140 injured service personnel and also introduced a new casualty category labeled “Overseas Operations” for personnel killed and wounded in the Iran war, “starting July 7”. The administration argues that the early phase of the war, called Operation Epic Fury, should be separate from the renewed fighting following the collapse of the ceasefire on July 6th. The administrations argument is that the clock for Operation Fury stopped on May 1st with the first ceasefire in place, and a new "casualty count" started on July 7th when the ceasefire collapsed. This move would be unprecedented.
