Crime isn't down 95% according to the Metropolitan Police as of July 17, 2026. In fact, violent crime is UP 1%:

Overall crime in Washington, D.C. has dropped significantly, with total incidents down 20% year-to-date. Violent crime remains roughly flat (+1%), though homicides have plummeted 38%. Property crimes are down 23%, driven by major declines in motor vehicle thefts (-53%) and theft from auto (-38%)

It's irrelevant that Trump is talking BS (as usual). The idea is to use this constant gas lighting about federal elections as a pretext to fixing the mid term elections. We will probably see ICE agents at most polling booths (for example) to make many voters fearful of going out to vote.

I'm not so sure about "most." As many polling booths in heavily Democratic Party leaning areas as they can get away with would be more plausible. Polling experiences in heavily Republican areas will likely be made as pleasant and quick as possible, like usual.

Anecdotally, I live in a notably Republican leaning area. I have never faced a particularly long line and usually there was barely any at all. I still prefer mail-in ballots, though, so I can specifically and efficiently research the options on the spot and not need to make a list.
