The intention is not to actually create a rule and apply it, and run it through a court case each time the US kicks someone out. The point of ending birthright citizenship is not a principle, it's not even a bad principle: the point is to give this administration the power to deport absolutely anybody it finds undesirable (no points awarded for guessing what characteristic will be the main criterion). It doesn't matter whether each individual thus deported was done so rightly or wrongly, that their parents were citizens or not. The object is to get them out and then all the burden is on them if they try to get back in. And, of course, to terrorize into submission and silence all the people who didn't (yet) get deported themselves.

The point is to exert control to suppress, intimidate, and neutralize potential opposition to the ever-increasing powergrab of the new style fascists. Stop acting like it's a legitimate disagreement over a point of constitutional law that will be argued in good faith in a courtroom. This isn't Hamilton and Madison disagreeing over the direction of federalism, this is Nero planning a nearly-plausible cover story for why he gets to burn people alive.

If you want to ban anchor babies, fine, but you have to amend the Constituion to do it, and that is not an easy thing to do.
I think Anchor Babies are sort of a uninteded consquence. but is it really worth the time and trouble of amending the Constituiton to fix?

Her parents did not use her citizenship to anchor themselves in the US. They returned with their daughters to Australia, where she was brought up.

It is hard to see how this situation could be prevented? Enforced contraception for those entering the US? Compulsory abortions at entry for non-US citizens might not be popular with the religious right nor the woke left.

There was a short story I read in which a politician tried to make it retroactive for a certain number of generations, resulting in professional genealogists becoming highly sought after political consultants. The proposal died quickly when the implications were fully realized.
