That was a joke, since the US administration likes to pretend it's true. I think that the only places in Europe that could correctly be described as hellholes are Russia, and, at times, Ukraine, because of the Russian attackd. And that doesn't have anything to do with muslims either.

It's petty ands pointless. What is it supposed to achieve? How does it make the US armed forces one bit more effective or capable? And of course whose next, military doctors and nurses? Logistical staff?

I saw a comment from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) that pointed out the underlying issue at the heart of all Trump's demands to 'protect' elections:

"I think it's a distraction from our real problems," Massie said. "I think it's ironic that we control the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court and the White House, and we're yelling 'election fraud'? I mean, we won all the damn elections."

Actually the second amendment as it was written and meant to be understood left most of the regulation of weapons* to the states. By making it mandatory to be in the state militia before a person could carry weapons (never mind owning them), the states were to regulate who could have them, except in the case of the federal army, which was meant to be small, very small.

*Arms is a general term for all weapons meant for war, not just guns.

I feel like adding a note here that adds more context here. Back in those days, there were a lot of places that made gun ownership mandatory... for white males. In contrast, native Americans and blacks were often outright forbidden to own guns. The 2nd Amendment was not made to address this situation at all, just to preserve the power of the states to be able to resist the federal government if they saw need to do so. Hence, any "originalist" argument about the 2nd Amendment being about personal gun rights is a load of ◊◊◊◊ and the whole resisting tyranny angle that the far right likes to style itself with is simply a deceitful trick.

ETA: It apparently wasn't until 1924 that Native Americans gained full gun rights, incidentally. Blacks? 1868.

Perhaps that is why the senior US army chaplain was dismissed.
