So much of what MAGA does can be classified under "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face," after all. That's pretty much what "trolling the libs" normally is, really.

This reddit thing seems to be a easy example, though. Conservative scientists and some not as conservative scientists found lefty performative DEI in STEM annoying. Understandably so, really, as any performative stunts are annoying. They're very unhappy that they voted for Trump now, though, given that the mass right-wing sabotage of STEM in the US is multiple orders of magnitude worse and is breaking the dominance and the infrastructure that held up that dominance that the US spent so much time and effort building.

To be fair? Such certainly did exist. Staff specifically hired to handle DEI issues trying to create justification for their continued existence when there wasn't much to address in their particular organization and higher-up PR people that just wanted to take advantage of the trend for posturing purposes without any desire to implement any substantive changes are likely particularly guilty of pushing performative DEI stuff.

I have no issue with agreeing that stuff like that is annoying and I can certainly sympathize with those who were annoyed by it. I can even agree that many DEI efforts likely needed some reining in because of various problems. That's splinter in the eye stuff, though, compared to the log in the right's eye. The whole issue of competence, in particular, is a dead giveaway there, though. Left-wing DEI? Competence is the most important qualification. If equally competent, choose the less-well represented candidate. Right-wing DEI? More competence is a negative and white male sycophant grants a significant advantage.

TR championed the “strenuous life" by living it himself- the only "legacy" Trump is leaving in that regard is to pretend that his spectator sports fetish is somehow an equivalent. It's in the same spirit as his constant posting of memes portraying the military as Hegseth's beloved "warfighters"- war as an action movie and soldiers as fictions following a script.
