Every other week for the last 2 years I've seen a new article along the lines of: "Trump's approval rating drops to new low!". But when I actually look at the article and the polling, his favorability is more or less the same range, depending on who is doing the polling and how the question is asked. Even when it dips at times it seems to be pretty resilient and often gains back the loss. I do think he has lost some support but not nearly as much as news and social media like to imply.

This most recent poll shows a 58% disapproval rating and 42% approval rating which is down about 6% since January. And that sounds good but that same polling back in April 2025 he had dropped to 55% disapprove and 45% approve but by late July 2025 it was 45% disapprove and 55% approve.

So the polling fluctuates quite a bit and I do think he has lost a little support but I think most of the drop in polling numbers like this is the equivalent of a gamer disapproving about a recent patch change. They may complain on discord or reddit about how the company is losing their support and making the game worse but it's still their favorite game and they will continue to play it and pay for microtransactions.

It is not just that he still has a lot of support, it is the lack of protests at what he is doing, that is concerning. It suggests that Americans in general are turning against their democratic western allies, and they prefer an aggressive, dictatorial leadership.

They're doing more than what the news bother reporting, but yes, we saw this clearly in the 2024 election, too. It was a referendum on democracy (again), and so many Americans outside of the cult didn't bother showing up to vote, with all kinds of weird reasons and excuses. I figured US democracy would be screwed if he won again, but I didn't expect the widespread apathy compared to the Resistance that nearly instantly formed in 2016.

More likely, that large numbers of people are apathetic. They care more about their own daily lives than the state of the nation and the world, and they're too ignorant to make a connection between the two. They're also like the proverbial frog in the pan of heating water. The water heats gradually, and the frog doesn't notice that it's too hot until it's too late. Add to that the people who know there's a problem but are fatalistic about it and believe they can't make anything change.

These people are as much of a problem as MAGA. It's hard to fight a fire when there's a huge crowd of people who are between you and the fire and think nothing's wrong or nothing can be done.
