Imagine how horrified and furious they'd be if Obama said this.
Franklin Roosevelt once started an after dinner speech with a
crazy-sounding rant of wild accusations, unhinged invective, and
looneytoons insults dripping with malice. The gathering was shocked, then
alarmed, then horrified! Was Roosevelt suddenly stricken mad? There were murmurs
about sending for the net.
Then some of the crowd began catching on: the bat poop language was familiar. It
was a series of quotes from the columns of H. L. Mencken, a fiercely overwrought
enemy of Roosevelt and the New Deal. All carefully verbatim, psychotic as they were.
Roosevelt paused as the laughter grew. Then he smiled his most charming grin, the
one that infuriated Republicans (and still does). He started his scheduled speech, not that
anybody could hear him.
Mencken, when he saw the next day's papers, went berserk, swearing that he'd "get that son of a bitch!"
History doesn't record that he did so.
Couldn't Obama pull that stunt with choice Magatoid quotes? Their literary standards are nowhere
as high as Mencken's, of course, but we live in a grubby time. No one would be offended, and
the laugh alone would make the news.
