A grave peril I can see going forward is that people who oppose Trump will expect the Democrats to fix everything when they come to power, even though I think much of the damage is irreversible. Trump has shown that the vaunted separation of powers with its check and balances were entirely dependent on a certain degree of bipartisanship and and basic sanity that has vanished. No red blooded American is going to want to hear that their political system isn't the greatest in the world.

Even the things that are fixable will take a decade or more. Its not like you can rebuild USAID in one term for instance.
