Trump's Second Term

People are spreading a photo of the West Wing of the White House being built in 1934, claiming that it's President Obama's demolition to build his basketball court.
The reality is that he just modified an existing outdoor tennis court.

As of the close of the day on October 16, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -1,580.

16 October 2025

1: Dr Oz reports one-third of US families are “under-babied” (it’s closer to 50%) [814]
0: RFK Jr reports sperm counts among use teem males is 50% of 65 year olds [815]
0: Trump claims to be working on a deal that will bring down the price of beef [816]
0: Trump health concerns: he was so weak today he had to sit down during the press conference [817]
-2: In one statement, Trump lies about reducing insulin to $25 and says Biden took credit for it [818]
-2: Trump: “I do not think any president has ever ended a war. One war. I did eight of them.” (2 lies)
-1: Trump: “We’re gonna break $20 trillion of investment.” (US GDP is $30 trillion)
-1: Trump again shows his innumeracy: drug prices down “500, 600, 800 percent” [819]
-1: Dr Oz says “hold my beer” (”Can’t even calculate that.”) [820]

References:
814. Dr Oz: “Turns out that about one-third of families don’t have the number of babies they desire. They’re under-babied. So this president committed to address that during the campaign and he’s delivering on that today.”

815. RFK Jr: “Today the average teenager in this country has 50% of the sperm count, 50% of the testosterone of a 65 year old man. Our girls are hitting puberty 6 years early ... our parents aren’t having children.”

816. Trump: “We are working on beef. I think we have a deal on beef that’s gonna bring the price of beef. That would be the one product that we would say is a little bit higher than we’d want it. Maybe higher than we want it. And that’s gonna be coming down pretty soon too. We did something, we worked our magic.”

817. (Via Threads) “Donald Trump is so weak he had to sit down during his press conference today. There’s obviously something wrong. We deserve to know what it is.”

818. Trump: “I did insulin. I got it down to like $25. I got it way down. What was it before that? It was massive. I watched this Biden taking credit for something I did.”

819. Trump: “Drug prices went down for the year by 1/8 of 1 percent. Now I’m getting them down, Maria, 500, 600, 800 percent. In some cases even more than that. It’s hard to believe.”

820. Dr Oz: “You’ll notice, President Trump, these are discounted from $242 to $10. I don’t know what the math is on that. We can’t even calculate it. It’s too high to calculate.”

821. Bartiromo: If you put that 100% tariff on top of what’s in place already, you’d have a 157% tariff on China. What is that gonna do to the economy?
Trump: It’s not sustainable, but that’s what the number is. It’s probably not. You know, it could stand. But they forced me to do that.

822. Headline: What to know about the indictment of former Trump national security adviser John Bolton (CNN)

823. Mike Johnson: “Let me say this right now though, Jake. Rep. Grijalva should be working for her constituents right now. I don’t know what she’s doing. I keep seeing their political stunt videos. She should be in her office. She should be working or in the district for her constituents.” (Grijalva is not in fact a Rep. yet because Johnson refuses to swear her in)
That's a minus, it's just the TACO regime leaning into the great replacement conspiracy and also looking for a further excuse to remove women's rights.

I love the desperation.

It's rather sad that people seem to be more upset by a building being demolished than by millions of Americans losing their food assistance.
We're upset by both, and most acutely that people will contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to a Trump vanity project but will scream bloody murder if even one dollar of their money is spent to feed a hungry worker. Our state just announced that SNAP payments won't be made for November due to the government shutdown. This means that many Utah families won't have food for Thanksgiving.

The sad fact is that the demise of the East Wing is a concise visual. It is ultimately unimportant compared to the welfare of millions of Americans. But it's an image that tells a more emotionally resonant story than the abstract concept of people going hungry. And it's sad that politicians are always callously toying with the outcomes for poor people. More so during an avertible government shutdown, but it's an ongoing struggle that can lose impact over time. Demolishing the White House is a singular event. It's not politics as usual. It's President Trump giving a giant middle finger to the country and saying, "You can't stop me from burning it all to the ground." It's unprecedented and therefore briefly more noteworthy.

Bondi: Pelosi got a letter today—We told them preserve your emails

if you are telling people to arrest our ICE Officers… you cannot do that, you are impeding an investigation and we will charge them…

We are going to investigate her

Private citizens doxxing anonymous not-actually-police thugs is obviously domestic terrorism and is intolerable.

The regime itself turning all the organs of state power to minutely scrutinise anyone who dares criticise them, in the hope of finding some trivial nugget to hang a vexatious lawsuit on in revenge, well that's just fine.

If you can't put the frighteners on anyone who dares open their yap to question your abuse of power, what's the point of abusing all that power at all, eh?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: things will have to get a lot worse before they can get better again. A LOT WORSE! We're not even close to being there yet. It's going to take millions of people starving, millions of homeless on the streets, millions unemployed with no prospects of work, millions without health care and many of them dying, millions of elderly thrown onto the streets, and protesters being shot dead in the streets or dragged off to prison camps.

WE'RE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT YET.

The images of the proposed interior seem to be mostly windows. That's not going to be cheap to keep warm in a D.C. winter.
News reports indicated that the glass will be bulletproof, so maybe they will be thick enough to provide insulation.
I am not sure how much thermal insulation bulletproof glass provides, regardless of thickness.

In northern climates, our "insulated" windows don't necessarily use thicker glass, but are typically multi-pane, with a layer of air in between.

Trump says trade talks with Canada 'terminated' over anti-tariffs advert

The advert, sponsored by the government of Canada's province of Ontario, quoted Trump's predecessor, Ronald Reagan, an icon of US conservatism, saying tariffs "hurt every American".
But, but... what about the other 149 deals trump was supposed to make in 150 days? Are they still going to be done?

One more thing: If and when we do get there, that ballroom will be a lightning rod of anger and protest. Schitler is turning the White House into the new Palace of Versailles; we know how well that went for Louis XIV.
Absolutely. It's even more clear a symbol than the jet. And I can imagine it being called the Epstein Ballroom, because the two narratives play into each other.

I imagine the insulating properties of the glass will depend largely on who is profiting from the sale of argon.

In the mean time, there's plenty of good clean coal, and books to start it with.
