Trump's Second Term

RAJU: You said yesterday you were still trying to get the details of this $230m the president wants from the DOJ. Now that you've had some time, are you ok with taxpayers potentially being on the hook for that kind of money?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not trying to dodge the question. I haven't had time to get the details. That's still on my list of things to do.

Hmmm, short hair so it wouldn't take all this time. Must have a very, very large socks drawer to sort, then !

"I'm not trying to dodge the question," replied ol' Dodger Johnson.

Mike Johnson: "Look, I've been a little busy on reconciliation, so I'm not following all the twists and turns of the Qatar jet. My understanding is it's not a personal gift to the president ... other nations give us gifts all the time ... it's not my lane."

I've managed to avoid watching Johnson. My appetite for watching mendacious politicians called Johnson lie was sated by our former PM.

However I saw someone claim that Mike Johnson goes bright red when he lies.

From the late Greg Iles, the Mississippi author ("Natchez Burning," among many other books):
I watched in disbelief as businessmen voted for a repeat bankrupter, laborers for a boss infamous for stiffing his workers, evangelicals for a serial adulterer, women for an admitted sexual assaulter, patriots for a draft dodger who would sell his country’s secrets for trivial gain, educated men for an ignoramus. But they did so with fierce gladness in their hearts. Because what their chosen one had done was open Pandora's box—yes, the old one, filled with the ancient calamities of race hatred and rage and cruelty and bloodlust and infinite greed—and tell them that these things were the remedy for all their grievances, that all their anger was justified, and most important: None of what ailed them was their own fault or ever had been.

It's all so much worse than I had imagined it would be.

an FBI official says the alleged NBA gambling ring involves the "Toronto Rangers" (not a real team), which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the quality of their investigation

I'm not sure why this topic belongs in this thread. For one thing, the investigation apparently started during the Biden administration.

First he was going to go sort through the tariff shelf but since the ghost of Bidens past shot down the government there's nobody left to tell him where it is.

Corrupt Trump;

"Representatives from Trump’s family crypto business have held talks with Binance about taking a stake in the US arm of the exchange, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year."

Oh, you wouldn't know them.

They go to a different stadium.

In Canada.

that’s the problem is i’d have no problem with believing a bunch of former players or coaches or refs were running some kind of illegal gambling scam. in fact with the warm welcome gambling has received in pro sports it’s almost a given.

but these guys are so incompetent. the scammers have won.

Bernie Sanders
@BernieSanders
This is what kleptocracy looks like.

In 2025, Donald Trump has received:

$3 billion: mostly from crypto
$940 million: law firms
$400 million plane: Qatar
$36 million: CBS
$25 million: Meta
$24 million: YouTube
$16 million: ABC
$10 million: X

Now $230 million from DOJ?
