It's not clear that any purpose or context exists. It appears simply to be a giant vanity project for Trump to stamp his permanent mark on Washington.

Such monuments always symbolise something, but this one <shrug> goodness knows. Earlier today Trump called the big angel on top "Lady Liberty" which it obviously isn't, so he has no idea what it symbolises. It's just a pastiche of familiar-looking monumenty stuff, cludged together.

Why an arch? What is it a gateway to? Why an angel? Why the eagles on either side? Why that location? No hint there's any symbolic purpose to any of it at all. Just a big thing for the big dog to scent-mark his territory with.

I guess the main symbolic value is that it helps paint the picture of Dump as this bigly powerful dictator. They all build unneccessary vanity projects like this.

But according to Trump himself, every sunk Venezualan boat saves 25,000 American lives. With 6 boats sunk*, we shouldn't have another drug-related death for the next year and a half.

*The number varies, but 6 seems like a realistic guess.
