Trump's Second Term

Strange to me that Patel's FBI found more "inscribed" casings where the text implicates exactly the type of perpetrator the FBI want to victimise...

This time, it's "anti-ICE" words on bullets that have killed and wounded ICE victims, not agents.

It is like sniping prisoners in a jail, and magically finding bullets labelled "take that, warden!"

Makes no sense, unless there is an ulterior motive to frame an innocent party.

I mentioned in the ICE thread that the "ANTI-ICE" slogan written on the ammo might not have been intended to mean antagonism toward ICE but rather that he wanted to be the flip-side of ICE. ICE's evil twin. He killed where they only arrested and deported.

Per The Guardian:

Officials correct death toll in Ice shooting to say one person killed, two in critical condition

The Department of Homeland Security just issued a correction related to the number of people killed and injured in the shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) field office in Dallas, Texas.

One detainee was killed and two others were in critical condition, the department said in a statement. Previously, the department said two detainees had been killed.

The department has not yet corrected or removed an earlier post on its X account which said that two Ice detainees were killed.

You mean like mini-ICE?

(that's a reference to the Drew Carey show and that Austin Powers movie):

Understood. But then anyone can write anything on bullets, including the FBI.

If I wanted to implicate my horrible neighbour Fred Nurke in some shooting crime, all I need to do is write "Fred Nurke's revenge!" on a bullet, shoot the windows out of a police car, and leave that bullet near the gun for the cops to find. Clearly, according to Patel's FBI methods, Freddy dun it.

I'm going to venture that however crazy the shooter was, the slogan they wrote was probably sincere rather than intended to lead the cops a merry dance. After all, the shooter appears to have immediately killed himself (unless I heard the story wrong) so I would expect any message they left was intended to further the same agenda as whatever the hell the shooting was supposed to achieve, and the shooting was not targetting ICE personnel.

Robert Reich: "
Three rural clinics in Virginia are already closing this year as a direct result of Trump and Republicans’ big, ugly bill.

Hundreds of rural hospitals and clinics are at risk due to the bill’s devastating cuts to Medicaid – all to pay for massive tax cuts for the rich. Priorities."

My state has two major cities. The hospitals are there plus maybe 2 elsewhere. They will need to use expensive helicopter rides.

Even quicker on Windows 11, hit the "Print Screen" button, draw the box around the content you want, it will be snipped and placed in your clipboard, CTRL v in your post.
Yeah but the Snip & Sketch tool gives you other tools, like being about to strike out or highlight specific details. And I barely know where the PrtScrn key on my keyboard is. It's almost as functionless as Scroll Lock.

A statue of Trump and Epstein holding hands in D.C. is removed as fast as it appeared

A group called The Secret Handshake claimed responsibility for the statue after it arrived on the National Mall on Tuesday morning. And while a National Park Service permit issued for the statue — obtained by NPR — allowed it to remain there until Sunday evening, eyewitness video showed U.S. Park Police hauling it onto a truck before sunrise on Wednesday.

<snip>

A Secret Handshake group member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation from the Trump administration, told NPR over email that it found out late Tuesday that "some people within the parks department aka most likely the Trump administration were trying to find ways to say we were not in compliance."

They said the group was reassured that if that were to happen, it would get 24 hours' written notice to remove the statue themselves, as required by the permit.

"Instead, they showed up in the middle of the night without notice and physically toppled the statue, broke it, and took it away," the member said. "We do not know where it is."

On Wednesday afternoon, the group member told NPR they had been allowed to see the statue, and sent NPR pictures of the figures, ripped from their pedestals and broken into pieces.

Mmm. Somehow, this seems remarkably like the behavior of organized crime and two-bit thugs.

Slightly grim take on Trump's recent rhetoric on Ukraine.

Trump has also taken a stronger position on sanctions, calling on the EU to halt purchases of Russian oil and hit China and India with tariffs — steps that Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, a Trump ally, has long said he would block.

“This is the start of a blame game,” one official said of Trump’s abrupt change of heart. “The US knew that the China and India tariffs would be impossible” for the EU to accept.

I saw a similar story in the New York Times. It's probably paywalled but you may be able to read it with a Google account:

With His Pivot on Ukraine, Trump May Be Washing His Hands of the War

His foreign policy views, former aides say, are more often driven by pique and a sense that he has been disrespected than by strategic analysis.

I just want to remind people that Trump promised to end the Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office.

Fact check: It wasn’t ‘in jest.’ Here are 53 times Trump said he’d end Ukraine war within 24 hours or before taking office (CNN)

Make outlandish promise before election; and then when you inevitably cannot deliver the promised result, pivot to saying that it was just a joke and of course anyone with a brain knew it was joke. And you're a bad person or maybe very dumb if you can't see that.

WashingtonCNN —
He wasn’t joking.

When President Donald Trump was reminded in an interview with Time magazine this week that he had said he would end the Russian war on Ukraine on “day one,” he claimed he hadn’t been speaking literally or seriously.

“Well, I said that figuratively, and I said that as an exaggeration, because to make a point, and you know, it gets, of course, by the fake news [unintelligible]. Obviously, people know that when I said that, it was said in jest, but it was also said that it will be ended,” Trump said, according to Time’s transcript.

That was published back in April. It is now (over) 8 months since Trump took office and there's no sign that the war is going to end any time soon.

On the campaign trail in 2023 and 2024, Trump said on dozens of occasions, in an entirely serious tone, manner and context, that he would end the war in Ukraine either within 24 hours of his return to the White House or even sooner than that. He said over and over again, including at both presidential debates of 2024, that he would have the war “settled” when he was president-elect, before his inauguration.

A Friday search of the Roll Call Factba.se database that catalogues Trump’s public remarks turned up at least 53 examples of Trump making such comments.

I never believed him, but maybe some of the people who voted for him believed it. I don't want to just allow it to be forgotten that he promised an end to the war very soon after taking office. Instead, now he plans to "wash his hands" of it and blame the Europeans and the Ukrainians themselves.
