Trump's Second Term

So we're talking about two countries that elected chief executives who intentionally dedicated the best part of their lives to mastering subjects that have nothing to do with governing a country. At least Trump is doing what he does best. These other leaders are doing something else entirely.
Donald Trump doing what he does best about subjects that (in @theprestige's opinion) have nothing to do with governing a country.

Economy
"This election is about saving our economy." (August 2024)
"All I know is this: We’re going to take in hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs, and we’re going to become so rich, you’re not going to know where to spend all that money." (March 2025)
"The President and his Cabinet officials have determined that...the denial of tariff authority would...thrust America back to the brink of economic catastrophe." (Trump et al., filed in federal court, September 2025)

Energy

“You remember when I used to say, ‘Darling, I want to watch our president tonight on television. And the husband looks, ‘I’m sorry, dear, the windmills aren’t [going]. There’s no wind tonight, you can’t watch darling, we’re not gonna be watching tonight.’” (October 2024)
“Windmills, we’re just not going to allow them. They’re ugly. They don’t work.” (August 2025)
“The scam of the century! We will not approve wind or farmer-destroying solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA!” (August 2025)

It is such a relief to know US economic and energy policy is being directed by Donald Trump, instead of by someone with a PhD in Economics (as in Canada) or Energy Engineering (as in Mexico).
:sarcasm:

I want to think so because I've always considered thepresitige an intelligent poster even when I haven't agreed with him. But...
theprestige has shown that he's intelligent plenty well.

Unfortunately, being intelligent isn't the same as using it, as various otherwise highly intelligent Republicans around me have proven to me quite firmly over the years.

To be fair to theprestige, Dump is admittedly probably the greatest con man of all time. He conned his way into the most powerful position in the world, and at the same time created a literal cult that has tens of millions of members from all over the world. When he sits in his bedroom munching berders and spreading ridiculous lies his cult blindly believes... He is indeed doing what he does best.

He seems to enjoy telling generals they can do whatever they want.

I gather it's not murder if you just keep saying "These people have declared war on the US". They're not homeless, they're homeless terrorists. They're not citizenship applicants, they're citizenship applicant terrorists.
It's just as much telling generals to do what they do not want.

HAPPENING NOW:Protesters have taken to the streets of Downtown Chicago for a powerful “No Trump, No Troops” rally. The crowd is making it clear they reject Trump’s authoritarian tactics and his dangerous push to turn America’s cities into war zones.

So, if Trump orders the Air Force to drop some bombs on Chicago or another American city, would they do it? Never thought that would be a serious question but I think we're headed towards finding out an answer.
I was going to go all Vonnegut: The king of Michigan sends his militia to police Illinois, and the Emperor of Illinois an army meet them at Gary, Indiana. Inidana goes up in smoke.

Meh...I mildly disagree. I think even has-been mediums with their 'I hear an 'm" person' are more astute conmen than Trump.
He has been very adept at branding himself. which arguably is a form of con.
But mostly I think he just hit the lottery and rode the perfect storm of an unhappy electorate latching on to a celebrity. Just pure luck, much in the way Musk became the richest man not so much because of his smarts but because of a series of fortuitous choices and circumstances.
Once he gained power, it wasn't so much his talent at conning that kept him powerful--it was the right wing machine that latched on to him that did the conning, and a lot of unhappy people who conned themselves into thinking he would be their savior.

Trump is the turd that floated highest during two bad flushes.

Slotkin is right: Trump’s second term isn’t survivable. Treating him like a bad season to wait out is suicidal. He’s dismantling democracy brick by brick. Democrats must act like the house is on fire, because it is.
Ah come on..., as long as late night hosts making jokes, pod save america having their fun and meidastouch declaring on a daily basis that Trump is done, it can't be that bad.

I'd say wait a few years, it'll all be just fine. Like it always have. Surely. Right?
