Trump's Second Term

Lately I've been remembering the mediocre 80s movie "Turk 182", in which a man launches a graffiti campaign against the Mayor of NYC, referencing an ongoing scandal with the phrase "Zimmerman flew and Tyler knew".
We could use a catchy phrase like that, but Trump has so many scandals that it would be impossible to settle on a single slogan.

Here's what the FBI has been doing...

Hillary's emails:
What Snopes says:
On July 5, 2016, then-FBI Director James Comey said that although Clinton and her staff had been "extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information," it was the FBI's judgment that "no charges are appropriate in this case."

Following the release of the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General's review in 2025, a claim (archived) spread rapidly online that this document confirmed that former President Barack Obama pressured Comey and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch to cover up the Clinton investigation.

How Snopes rated that second paragraph's claim: False

Weiner's laptop:
As reported by Slate in June 2018:
The laptop was on a list of topics discussed by McCabe and other FBI officials on Oct. 3 and 4. And then … nothing happened. “After October 4, we found no evidence that anyone associated with the [Clinton] investigation, including the entire leadership team at FBI Headquarters, took any action on the Weiner laptop issue until the week of October 24,” says the report....

That three-week delay arguably cost Clinton the election. In interviews with the IG’s investigators, Comey says that if he had known about the laptop’s contents at the beginning of October, he might have kept his mouth shut and waited for FBI analysts to determine whether any of the emails were incriminating. But the report finds no evidence that the three-week delay was a conspiracy to hurt Clinton. It was a product of neglect.

The Epstein tapes:
What Epstein tapes?

Hunter's hard drive:
Wikipedia:
In June 2024, federal prosecutors utilized the laptop as evidence as part of a criminal case against Hunter Biden, alongside testimony from an FBI agent involved in authenticating and investigating the laptop.

Batteries don't exist.

Thiessen: Just so people understand wind and solar only work when there is wind and sun. We don't have technology to store the energy from wind and solar…

Besides batteries existing, surplus electricity is distributed to the grid, reducing the need for fossil fuels. That doesn't mean we get rid of fossil fuels; it means they are still there to use! Energy is a mix. It's not exactly fungible (although perhaps electricity is), but there is a place for almost any source, even coal on a limited basis.

To me the whole point is to not rely on a single source. Also, as far as "drill baby drill," energy independence is good, but might it not be strategic at times to let other countries deplete their reserves?

I don't know the state of battery technology. But it's insane for talking head 1 not to say, "But what about batteries?" And talking head 2 can say, "That's a good point. Batteries do exist, but present battery technology is insufficient to store all of that excess energy."

The whole Maxwell deal is a bit perplexing.
Presumably they are meeting with her to secure a pardon. Obviously she has first hand knowledge of Trump being involved in the sex ring so
they need her to keep quiet, and obviously she can use that knowledge to secure some sort of deal or pardon.

But if Trump does pardon her, if that is all the deal is, that would clearly not satisfy MAGA and it would probably just increase dissatisfaction with how they have handled the Epstein files.

So, I would think that the goal is to pardon her, based on her giving incriminating testimony against others who are on the list. That would satisfy the MAGA crowd and protect Trump.

But it seems to me, that has a high risk of backfiring, since anyone she incriminates could potentially have incriminating info on Trump....
Unless of course they make a deal in secret that she would lie about who was on "the list"... obama, hunter biden, hillary, etc....

Even without evidence, the MAGAchud base will be happy at something that smears the Democrats, and they are foolish enough to accept her claims without any evidence. And because they never associated with Epstien they wouldn't have any way to turn it back on Trump.

I saw it pointed out somewhere that Gen Z Trump supporters had probably never heard of the Access Hollywood tape. And have no idea how much he lies.
Jason Pargin pointed out that a person reaching voting age today in America has basically never experienced normal politics. Dump came into the picture when today's 18-year olds were 10. For as long as they've been following politics it's been a Drumpf-led ◊◊◊◊ show.

the whole situation is just weird...nothing would surprise me at this point. Well, except for the theory that JE is still alive somewhere--that would surprise me!

...snip...
At the moment there is a lot of work on using passive energy storage devices, for instance small hydro plants. In one way it doesn't matter how inefficient these are as long as you are storing "excess" energy that would have been lost anyway and can feed that back when the wind drops or it gets too dark.

Are there really people so ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ stupid they think this is true?

Does the USA not have any laws about outright LYING in the media?

There was that Covid too. They might remember that. The evil government made you wear masks as killed a half a million Americans by vaccinating them.

Hunter's hard drive:
As a small side note, just because - I'm reminded of a prior exchange a little.
Other person: Hunter Biden's laptop is very important and real. The mainstream media lied about it and downplayed it, tricking you gullible people. They should have been screaming about it like Fox was!
Me: Guiliani and the right wing propaganda machine handled Hunter's laptop like clowns and prevented more legitimate sources from even having access. Without access, the more legitimate media couldn't do their due diligence to check that what they would be publishing would actually be true, so they couldn't really publish much. When the more legitimate media eventually did get access and could perform due diligence, they did publish on what could reasonably be said.
Other person: That doesn't sound right. Why would Guiliani do that?
I'm pretty sure I touched on the obvious of course, but I think that that last question was a very good one that probably should have been emphasized more. Guiliani and co did do that, after all, and answers to the question of why are pretty much all devastatingly revealing about how bad the right wing propaganda machine actually is.

Unfortunately...

The truth is there’s little the government can do about lies on cable

More detail at the link, but the really short version with some additional considerations added? What the government can do, overall, is severely limited, was not designed with technology like cable or the internet in consideration, and can be circumvented far too easily by bad actors. Further, actually doing anything about the lying runs afoul of Republicans, because the Republicans at the top are generally well aware that their political power is built on a foundation of lies and deceit. Further, the 1st Amendment, which would need to be kept in mind even by the well-meaning, is extremely easy for the liars to weaponize in bad faith.
