Trump's Second Term

There isn't a CNN story though.
Well, that figures. What was Mike Johnson talking about?
There was a CNN story reporting a poll that showed Trump had 88% support among Republicans.

Mike Johnson rounded that up to 90% and pretended the poll showed 90% support among all Americans.

Mike Johnson did that because Mike Johnson is a despicable liar who thinks his lying is okay because he's a Christian. Or maybe the lying is okay because it praises Trump, who was saved by God from an assassin's bullet.

God saved Trump from an assassin's bullet. Why can't She save Trump from phlebitis?
Because God knows she isn't a doctor.
(That's a doctor joke, not a Trump joke.)

Just saw a negative ad trying to primary a Republican congressman on YT.

Thomas Massie, of Kentucky.

I live in PA.

Massie is apparently a radical Democrat for not voting for the BBB (framed as “Donald Trump’s tax cuts).

It’s not even 2026 yet.

There certainly were long shot hopes, though.

Unfortunately, one of the hallmarks of MAGA and its conspiracy theory foundations is that it's heavily rooted in laziness and dishonesty. The Epstein BS was never likely to do more than maybe peel off a small fraction of fence-sitters. Hopefully, it has done so.

Fears are well-founded. I was appalled to read recently in local news about one such horrible example.

This was a Canadian citizen (white) who had lived in the United States for over forty years. He was brought here by his parents when the was 3-years-old and has permanent resident status. He's employed, married to an American woman, they have four kids and own a home. He says he held on to his Canadian citizenship all these years with the idea that when he retired he would probably move back to Canada. He says he still has a lot of family there, visits often, and his wife loves Canada. Around this time of year he usually takes a couple of his kids and they visit family members in Canada for a couple weeks vacation. This year, when he drove back with two of his children he was refused reentry to the US by ICE. Why? In 2007 he had been arrested and charged with Aggravated Reckless Driving, a criminal offense. ICE agents at the border told him, based on his having "a criminal record" they would not allow him to reenter the US. He was with his daughters and they tearfully pleaded with the ICE agents but were finally threatened themselves with arrest if they continued.

Right now this gentleman is still in Canada. His lawyer says, yes, he was once arrested for Aggravated Reckless Driving, and it's on his record. but he was never tried, much less convicted. The charge was reduced to Reckless Driving, a traffic violation, and he paid a fine. So far, the lawyer says, ICE has been non-responsive.

The man says he's trying to handle it as an extended vacation but meantime problems mount. His wife works but is unable to cover their mortgage payments on the house they own. His job is in jeopardy. His wife and kids are traumatized by these events.

The underlying problem may be, we have a tyrant in Washington, and the ICE agents are under pressure to show actions. They're doing what they think they have to do.

An absolute nightmare. :eye-poppi
It's insane that a charge is regarded as a conviction now.

When you work for a tyrant.

Reminds me of a story I read by a former Russian secret police agent, who served during the darkest of Stalin's years. He said they had a strict quota for arresting "enemies of the state," and were told, if they couldn't meet their quote, "maybe THEY were secretly an enemy of the state." He recounted a story of getting a date with a attractive young woman from his neighborhood. They went dancing and then had a late supper. As they finished the meal he excused himself to go to the "men's room." Actually he went to a pay phone, called police headquarters and asked for officers to come to the restaurant and arrest the woman. That she had made slanderous remarks about Stalin and admitted to being in a resistance cell, all of it completely made up, completely untrue. As they left the restaurant officers were waiting. "Is this the one?" they demanded and he said, "Yes this is her." As they led her away she tearfully pleaded, "How can you do this to me?!?" He said he tried to laugh and shrug it off, "It's only ten years."

He said at the time he was so dangerously behind on his quota, he felt he had to do it. He didn't want to but he didn't want to be arrested either.

We're not that far gone yet, but we're headed that way.

I'll just leave this here.

Trump administration sets quota to arrest 3,000 people a day in anti-immigration agenda

This article is more than 1 month old
The target was delivered by Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem, and triples figures from earlier this year

Trump says he may block the deal to move the Commanders back to DC unless they re-adopt a racist team name

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way. I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original "Washington Redskins," and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, "Washington Commanders," I won't make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone. Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change. What he doesn't understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election.
Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!

Adam Schiff is a THIEF! He should be prosecuted, just like they tried to prosecute me, and everyone else The only difference is, WE WERE TOTALLY INNOCENT, IT WAS ALL A GIANT HOAX!

More like something to allow the suit to be (very badly) shoehorned into existing libel laws based on how they are written.
Getting a conviction for libel in the U.S. is very difficult. He must prove malice, a reckless disregard for the truth and actual damages.

Re: damages. "The letter" is much milder than Trump's own sexual revelations.

Disregard for truth: I believe Murdoch has ironclad evidence that this is real.

Malice: Difficult to prove. For one thing, it is mildly newsworthy, though the paper probably waited for a "peg" give them an excuse to run it. Also Fox News is still basically fellating Trump 24/7.

"Bawdy" is a fairly mild word. That characterization may really bother Trump, but IMO, it doesn't make the suit any stronger.

I think Trump wants optics far more than he wants results. I'm not sure that makes it any better. But couldn't they just lie and say they met the quota?

People don't explain to me. I explain to them.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
The Wall Street Journal ran a typically untruthful story today by saying that Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, explained to me that firing Jerome "Too Late" Powell, the Worst Federal Reserve Chairman in History, would be bad for the Market. Nobody had to explain that to me. I know better than anybody what's good for the Market, and what's good for the U.S.A. If it weren't for me, the Market wouldn't be at Record Highs right now, it probably would have CRASHED! So, get your information CORRECT. People don't explain to me, I explain to them!
