Trump's Second Term

I guess there's no such thing as bad publicity protesting too much.

Now he's turned on all of his supporters who haven't yet got the message that they're supposed to stop clamouring for the release of the Epstein papers and instead STFU about Epstein entirely.

Now they're "PAST supporters". They "haven't learned their lesson". They "probably never will". They were "conned" by the left. They're "weaklings". They're "doing the Democrats work". He doesn't want their support any more.

There is a non-zero chance he just lost the room. I will laugh so hard if they turn on him.

I guess the question is... why does it matter?

If all the MAGAchud supporters all of a sudden decided "Trump is really not a good president", it probably wouldn't make a difference. He cannot run again in 2028 (Although people are worried he might try to cancel elections, etc., I don't think it will go that far.) Even if he had 0% support among the public, he would still have his minions in his administration to wreck the country. (I don't think people like Bondi or Steven Miller will just disappear since they probably don't really have many prospects outside of supporting stubby McBonespurs.) Something like impeachment probably wouldn't work because even if trump is unpopular I doubt republicans in congress would go as far as supporting removal.

The only thing it might do is affect the mid-terms in 2026, but the democrats were likely to win the house anyways, and thanks to the layout/demographics of the senate the republicans are probably going to hold onto it even if there is some blowback over Epstein.

It matters because the only thing that's keeping the Republicans in congress spellbound in lock-step with Emperor Pamperstime is his threat of unleashing his MAGA voters on them if they disobey. They're the power he uses to gain more overreach.

If he just told the core of them to get lost, he is in genuine trouble.

I'm not sure there's anything he could say or do to alienate them - including telling them to get lost.

He's already called them stupid and they love him all the more.

That's true I suppose. They'll love him calling them weaklings, for who among them is not a weakling in the sight of Their Lord?

But I still think saying he doesn't want them any more is extremely dangerous, and combining that with his blatant running away from releasing the Epstein documents, I can see a lot of dim bulbs tentatively lighting up over heads.

"Bad MAGA! Stupid MAGA! No Epstein list for you, wicked and foolish MAGA!" It might be a step too far. On the other hand, if it isn't a step too far, he's probably unstoppable. Game over and everyone should just give in and prepare for the coronation, hoping maybe the weight of the gold crown will snap his neck.

But again, what would be the affect?

Trump is already destroying the country largely by decree/executive orders. He's already got the one piece of legislation passed that will further wreck the country, and if his first term is anything to go by, its unlikely he would have gotten much more through congress anyways. So between those 2 factors, its not like he has a big need for Congressional help anyways. And its not like I would expect republicans in congress to start siding with Democrats over further legislation, because even if republicans figure "Trump=toxic", they also have a built in bias against any sort of bipartisanship.

You might get a little more finger-wagging from republicans in congress just to save face (like Moscow Mitch did after the January 6 terrorist attack) but they still won't really do much to act.

I could have sworn ten minutes ago it was an article of faith that the Epstein files were being suppressed to protect the corrupt elite pedos, but now Big Brother has reminded us that akshully there was never any Epstein file at all and the rumour it existed was an invention of the enemy. People who claim there is an Epstein list are to be made the subject of the Two Minutes Hate.

It's so difficult to find anything to cling to with certainty these days. At least we have always been at trade war with Eastasia. And Big Brother has nothing but contempt for us as we so richly deserve. Hail, Big Brother.

I still think he's only just figured out it's the same Jeffry Epstein.
 
I don't know if it will happen, but it would be oddly fitting (though not very reassuring nor satisfying), if the issue that finally cost Trump a bigly chunk of his base ended up being not the economy, nor immigration policy, nor government spending, nor DEI/LGBT nonsense, but possibly the most ridiculous performative-outrage non-issue in the MAGA wheelhouse.
