It sounds like something out of Catch 22. We bomb their bases by arrangement to show our side we're doing our bit and they bomb us by arrangement to keep their side happy, and so on.So back when we bombed them my immediate thought was, somebody probably told them ahead of time what was going to happen. Because why not? I don't think they could have stopped it. For two countries that don't talk there is a lot of yammering going on. It fascinates me to hear Trump give what may actually be an accurate summary of the conversation. Or maybe the conversation never took place, with him you never known.
I'm cynical, and am not shocked by him saying "go ahead I understand." Is this going to rub some people the wrong way? Shouldn't it be a little shocking to hear a U.S. president encourage attacking a U.S. base?
Now that Trump has freely admitted the Iranian retaliation was pre-arranged and agreed, how long until people start to question whether the whole thing was a performance? Whether the most complex and brilliant military operation in all of history (!) was something the Iranians were told was coming and to let it happen.
