• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Trump's Second Term

Sure, but you're blacklisting half of the internet. More than half, probably.
What?? There's a hell of a lot more to the web than Fecesbook, Xitter, and Gaggle. In fact, mostly those sites simply regurgitate what other people are putting on to the web. I have more than I can follow even after banning those those three sites from my system.

You've been on the web just as long as I have. Have you forgotten how to seek out new sites and new information?

Ms Ciau, whose husband was arrested at the car wash, said she learned late on Tuesday that he was no longer in Los Angeles, or even the state of California.

She was told by her lawyer that Mr Cruz is being held at a detention centre in El Paso, Texas, more than 800 miles (1,300km) from their home.

Her youngest child - a five-year-old boy - is having the hardest time with the change, she said.

"He just keeps asking for his dad. I don't know what to tell him," she added, through tears.

"He doesn't understand what is going on. He still thinks his dad is at work."

I guess you just miss out on a few things.
I try not to do FOMO. However, I will call out people who simply assume everyone is comfortable going to every crappy site out there on the web. This site is supposed to be for discussion. People posting raw links to off-board sites aren't contributing to the discussion; they're merely making noise.
I'm in agreement with Blue Mountain here, in general. Effectively just posting a link without meaningful context is bad etiquette that is not conducive to discussion and also rings warning bells about potentially being a scam or phishing attempt.

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out," another note to troops said.

…to be followed by a letter in their personnel file noting their disloyalty.
Well, as Army Secretary Dan Driscoll said yesterday Donald just has an incredible connection as commander in chief with "his army."

The USA is very, very broken.

What do you do when the organisation nominally dedicated to protecting and serving do that. To whom do you turn?

When a uniformed representative of the state can do this, and, will bet my left nut, experience no consequenses, what do you do?

(I wonder if her health insurance covers this..?)
You see, that's the problem, the US police are designed not to serve and protect, but to occupy and terrify. It comes out of being formed from a mixture of the ante-bellum posse comitatus, whose main purpose was to catch escaped slaves, and private "security" companies like the Pinkertons, whose main role was violent strike breaking.

Trigger happy trained killers aren't ideal peacekeepers, remember when the Parachute regiment were sent in to police a peaceful demonstration in Derry one Sunday in 1972? Shooting people in the back as they ran away.
The only reason you send soldiers into protests is if, like Frank Kitson, you want innocent civilians to be murdered.

Rep. Darrell Issa: "Maria, this is one of those examples where you've got, as we did in the civil rights movement, governors and mayors who simply don't wanna comply with the laws that were passed. In Karen Bass's case, even during her time. She knew what the laws were, and now she's just ignoring them."

It'd be funny to see white supremacists like that shobgite Issa comparing Mayor Bass to his intellectual teachers and predecessors, except that it's scary how it's all part of the regime's campaign to create a racial enemy their Aryan state can be permanently at war with.

Those 457 British personnel who died in Afghanistan would be rolling in the aisles.

I would like to see him tell that joke to one of the Royal Marines that served in Helmand

HEGSETH: We wore a patch on our shoulder that said ISAF -- International Security Assistance Force. And you know what the joke was? That is stood for 'I saw Americans fighting.'

COONS: Let's just make clear for the record that our military partners in Afghanistan included many who served and died

Is Stolen Valour Pete pretending he saw combat again?

The violent crime rate was higher too, not double but higher. In 2023 USA Facts reported Arkansas had 620 violent crimes per 100,000 people. California recorded 508 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

As I've written before, as a former Boss of mine once explained to me: "We believe what we need to believe when we need to believe it. If the situation changes? We believe something else."
Doublethink.

To boldly go where no browser has gone before?

Yes, I still use Feedly and RSS. I started using Feedly when Google Reader was discontinued, remember that? That was around the time that Google discarded it's "don't be evil" principle. And yet, these things are still useful to me. I am, fundamentally, lazy. I'm not interested in expending a great deal of time and effort learning how to manipulate software. I've got more interesting things to do.

Yes, I agree with that. I'm not clicking a bare link, unexplained. Nor am I watching a YouTube video without some explanation of why I should. Maybe not even then.

To poke at a couple things of some note -

... *sigh* I don't really think that I need comment much on this disrespect and misuse of the military.
