Trump's Second Term

Do they really believe protesters are paid by some mysterious organisation?

Gabbard: They don’t care about the American people, they don't even care about the people they are claiming to protest for. So many are paid protesters. This is being orchestrated obviously in many ways

The Pentagon has launched a review of the Aukus defence pact to make sure it is aligned with Trump’s “America first” agenda, throwing the $240bn agreement with Britain and Australia into doubt.

Australia has already paid the US almost A$800m (US$520m) this year to boost American submarine production,

I think that they really do believe that; to believe otherwise is to admit that people are sincerely protesting ideologies and actions that the Trumpistas themselves believe in so deeply that they think they are above protest and even beyond honest contesting. It's a lot like the evangelical fundies who just cannot conceive of an atheist truly not believing what they do- for them, god is an undeniable fact, not just a belief.

On the lighter side, it seems work is underway to pave over Melania's rose garden. From what I recall was said when Melania planted that before, paving is probably an improvement. Trump says he's going to pay himself for a couple of giant flags to go along with it, because of course otherwise nobody would know where they are. I hope the flag and pole purveyors get the money up front.

To poke at a couple things of some note -

Bragg Soldiers Who Cheered Trump's Political Attacks While in Uniform Were Checked for Allegiance, Appearance

Internal 82nd Airborne Division communications reviewed by Military.com reveal a tightly orchestrated effort to curate the optics of Trump's recent visit, including handpicking soldiers for the audience based on political leanings and physical appearance. The troops ultimately selected to be behind Trump and visible to the cameras were almost exclusively male.

One unit-level message bluntly said "no fat soldiers."

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out," another note to troops said.
...
Adding to the spectacle, a pop-up shop operated by 365 Campaign, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer that sells pro-Trump and other conservative-coded memorabilia, was set up on-site with campaign-style merchandise on Army property. Soldiers were seen purchasing clothing and tchotchkes, including "Make America Great Again" chain necklaces to faux credit cards labeled "White Privilege Card: Trumps Everything."

Permitting the sale of overtly partisan merchandise on an Army base likely runs afoul of numerous Defense Department regulations aimed at preserving the military's long-standing commitment to political neutrality. The Army has historically gone to great lengths to avoid even the appearance of partisanship.
... *sigh* I don't really think that I need comment much on this disrespect and misuse of the military.

Trump wants you to snitch on national parks

A sign for the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, which was leaked to NPR, says park visitors should identify “any signs or other information that are negative about either past or living Americans or that fail to emphasize the beauty, grandeur, and abundance of landscapes and other natural features.”

That seems relatively benign, but this national park in Missouri sits where the second major battle of the Civil War was fought. It’s a barely veiled request for complaints about how describing the Confederacy in anything but glowing terms is un-American.

Parks were notified of this signage requirement on June 9 and have until June 13 to get signage up everywhere. That’s a comically short timeline in the best of circumstances, but it’s basically impossible given Trump’s deep cuts to the NPS. There aren’t even enough workers to clean the bathrooms in many parks, much less spend time on the administration’s project to whitewash the nation’s history.
Trump Administration declares that criticism of historical American slavers and traitors is not okay!

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out," another note to troops said.

…to be followed by a letter in their personnel file noting their disloyalty.

I guess you just miss out on a few things.
I try not to do FOMO. However, I will call out people who simply assume everyone is comfortable going to every crappy site out there on the web. This site is supposed to be for discussion. People posting raw links to off-board sites aren't contributing to the discussion; they're merely making noise.
