When are responsible Republicans -- is that an oxymoron? -- going to step up and say, "Hey hold on, there's something wrong here. We can't go on like this." The nuclear trigger. Think about it. All it would take is one really deranged moment and the world as we know it will be gone. Forever. But it can't happen...until it happens. The air raid sirens going off. All the TV shows being interrupted. "We interrupt the current broadcast to bring you a breaking news story!" Then the power goes off.

Is that 'push the button' an absolute, unstoppable right, though? Seems there might be ways to block it if there was no clear and present danger.

While a President does have a "Big Red Button" of sorts, it still has to go through a few layers before a launch is performed. The high-ranking military person in charge could put a halt to it. (This is much simplified.)

We can only hope that, if he does press the button, the worst thing that happens is that we're forced to watch a badly-dubbed Hercules movie.
 
Okay, clearing the air: No, I meant nothing creepy about N. Portman. I just imagined it was a cutesy way to say "the long decades since I've so much as glanced" at any kind of Raw Rats stuff. Or at almost any of the cultural tags going around these days.

Hell, I don't catch 9 out of 10 of the references in the current R. Crumb bio I'm laboring through. Fact is, I've always been just a little too old for the times I've lived in.

Okay, dammit, too young. What should I do, quit trying?

Oh so this is another of those things Trump couldn't do because of all the checks and balances? I'm sure everyone can breathe a sigh of relief...

There are ways to block illegal deportation, diverting allocated funds, illegally tampering with education, and lots of things too. I'm sure there would be a way to block an unwarranted missile launch, but our fearless leader has taken to heart the old adage that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, so he could launch, drop the bombs, start World War III, blow up half the earth, and get a judgment from some court or agency, and say "I didn't do it. Some aid whose name I forgot thought it was the button to start the coffee maker," so stop asking nasty questions, and his minions will eat it right up. Yeah yeah, he knows everything and knows nothing, he was the shadow president during Biden's term, and the Biden cabal was secretly running things during his, and it's all just right, hail Caesar.

Or something. Whatever we expect, we'd better not.

Ah, but the risk is worth it because of Hillary's emails.
 
Once major war breaks out, Trump's USA will be in such disarray that nuclear weapons will be its only panicked fallback.

China is desperate and Xi needs a Taiwan win. In that case, however, we will be saved by TACO capitulation and a new golf course deal.

Israel is the real danger, author of so many ill-fated schemes to neutralize all potential enemies, a nation that is fast making enemies by the nanosecond. An increasingly isolated Israel is a dire threat to world peace, because nukes. Either they shoot, or the US shoots to save their ass, and the nastiest of scenarios commences.

A little off-topic, but the article inadvertantly points out a huge problem with the US medical system: there is a shortage of physicians and the shortage is not a result of a lack of qualified people wishing to become physicians. A little Googling found that most medical schools accept only 5-10 percent of applicants, so getting into any particular medical school with an MCAT score in the 90th percentile isn't a guarantee of getting into a top medical school.

I know of someone who was not even ready to go to medical school get their pick of where they wanted to go. That’s the complaint about DEI. It generally runs unnoticed in the background. You are comparing apples to apples and I am comparing apples to oranges which goes against how you were taught. If this response is too good expect to here some counter arguement.

No. There are quite a few responsible Republicans. There's a bit more nuance in play, though. There's virtually none in higher political power, for one. At lower levels, they're greatly outnumbered by the irresponsible at every level, after all, which is why there's virtually none in higher political power.
