We are in our mid-late 70's. The damage Trump has done to the USA in two and a half months won't -- CAN'T -- be fixed in our lifetimes. And there's three years and 9.5 months to go. Not that things will change at the end of Trump's nominal term, because free elections won't be happening.

I'm more optimistic.

Trump is causing too much chaos too soon before the institutions are fully dismantled.

A lot of his MAGA fans will either suffer from very sudden price rises, or job uncertainty, or pensions and his attacks on government services. And he will lose critical elections preventing drones being installed in critical roles.

He's managing to break through the bubble

Even for many of those who could initially scrape by without Social Security, their ability to do so long term would be dependent on the rate of return on their retirement accounts being sufficiently larger than the inflation rate. With the potential for stagflation, who knows what's going to happen.

Yeah, it would depend on how long we live, and if there are large medical expenses or we end up spending our last years in a nursing home, and a lot of other factors.
 
The Senate voted 51-48 to pass a resolution blocking the tariffs on Canada from taking effect

Four republicans defected
Collins, Murkowsi, Rand Paul and McConnell

But it looks like Little Mikey Johnson has blocked it and anyway without a 2/3 majority Donald will just Veto it.

But, cracks are beginning to show in the GOP.

Not just a few. The delegation of authority is a law passed by Congress. Repealing that law requires another act of Congress following all the same constitutional rules, meaning Trump has veto power, and overriding the veto requires 2/3 of the House and Senate to override, not just a few defectors.

I wouldn't really say this is evidence of "cracks forming". In fact just the opposite. It shows that the GOP still firmly has their lips planted on trump's behind.

Collins and Murkowski always had a little defiance towards Trump (remember they voted against the republican health care plan), but they also fall in line on other things (like confirming Drunky McRapeface.) Voting against a resolution they probably recognize would go nowhere isn't that big of a deal for them.

Moscow Mitch is on his way out, so he has nothing to lose and he can use it to rebuild his reputation. ("Ignore all the times I supported Trump as he destroyed the country, I stood up to him in the most meaningless way! Remember me fondly when I am gone")

The only "unusual" person was Rand Paul, but his politics are a bit "weird" on account of his libertarian leanings.

Meanwhile, 48 senate republicans took a look at the resolution and said "lets let Trump continue to destroy the economy".

In other words Donald ◊◊◊◊ the bed and wants someone else to clean it up.

So, the Trump administration tried to change the way social security numbers are assigned in Maine, all because Trump was butt-hurt that the governor of Main didn't agree to his Trans-athelete ban.

So the party that is all about "states rights" retaliates when Maine tries to set its own policy separately from the federal government.

And the party that is all about "efficiency" tries to change the system to be less efficient.
