Trump's Second Term

The Republican party, including many who are still in office, has historically been the one most vocal about standing up to Russia, for having the strongest military in the world, and being the world's policeman. This, I think, had been true until Trump. It's very new.
Yeah well that really is history now. The Republican party in the here and now exists to validate Trump and Trump wants to be Putin, an authoritarian strongman in a country where democracy just means rubberstamping whatever the dictator wants.

Dear Republicans:

It's only to going to get worse and worse and worse and worse. If a bunch of you don't band together soon, or today, or several minutes ago it's going to get worse. Never better. Never even level off.

If you don't want that to happen, get your little act together and enact it. Enact the act.

Oh, and don't stand in place, hands in pockets, eyes to the sky and whistling in hopes the Democrats are going to save the day. For them, they quite evidently don't even have a concept of a plan.

So don't wait. Waiting is for waiters and waitresses. Be leaders. Try it, you might like it. I know I would.

Your pal,
RK

Being a reasonable republican, I approve of this message.

Get out there and fight you lazy cowards.

Of course, I mean that in a nice way... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can refer to themselves as a Republican anymore. It's just mind boggling.

I apologize if this sounds harsh, plague311, but what boggles my mind is a skeptic making a blanket statement with no proof.

My reasons for continuing to be a registered republican is personal and no one's business but my own.

I have been called a nazi just because I won't lie and say I'm a dem.

Do you think that's fair?

And on top of that, it feels like 99.9% of my fellow republicans have turned into little zombie replicas of the lying, fat clown and it pisses me off!!!

Jesus, that's (the fake Time magazine cover) the most pathetic thing I've ever seen.
The more pathetic the more he likes it.
The West's Ukraine policy was based on the assumption that Putin would see some sense at some point.
But Putin, by thinking that wining this conflict is existential for Russia has continued the fight for so long that by now it is going to be the end of Russia, win or lose. The only question is whether it will take Ukraine with it or not.
I think it's more existential for him rather than Russia.

Well to be fair, it wasn't a statement of judgement--it was statement of self puzzlement!
And I totally get it. The Republican Party has converted to Trumpism which is basically a cult based on lies.
Since the Gulf of America had its name changed might as well change Republican to Trumplican and be done with it.
I have good friends who I grew up with, went on trips with, who have fallen into the cult, because unlike you or I they never learned to think critically or question their worldview. It pisses me off, but mostly it makes me sad.

Most vocal? Sure! It may be worth noting that, among the leaders, much of that was 1) virtue signalling and 2) hiding darker motives behind a more palatable front. For example, the Two Santa Clauses strategy has been discussed recently and much of the focus of that Republican spending like a drunken Santa has intentionally been in areas that would benefit the average citizen the least, the military being a prime example. Naturally, they sought to capitalize on such in their propaganda. There certainly were and are principled Republicans on the various issues, but that's not what actually drove the Party and the propaganda. Among the rank and file, of course, things have been a bit different, because they've been influenced by the propaganda, just like they were before. As it stands, the change in propaganda has led to significant changes in the expressed stances of the rank and file Republicans, though far from all are directly affected on things like those you just listed.

But Trump and the Republicans are not the only one who does this. It has gotten to the point that the two parties have to stake out opposing positions on every issue and members are not allowed to agree about anything.

I think it was Bob Dole who said in an interview that I heard that the Democrats were his opponents, not his enemies. Both parties want the best for the country, they just disagree with how to get there. Then he went on a speaking tour with Clinton.

That could well have been more true then, even if more nuance would be required for accuracy and meaningful understanding even then. The current Republican Party is much, much more blatant about prioritizing Party over Country than it was being then, though, too, to put things nicely.

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can refer to themselves as a Republican anymore. It's just mind boggling.

It's not that hard, really. Plenty of people try to change organizations and systems from within. The Republican Party, especially, is resistant to "outsiders," too, so it's hardly a bad thing for voices of reason not to abandon the party, even as it tries to bully them. The bad thing isn't being a Republican. The bad thing is being evil and/or seeking to do harm.

It would seem the party left you, then. Also, kudos for sticking to your principles.

worldview. It pisses me off, but mostly it makes me sad.

What makes me sad are all the innocent people (especially children) who will be caught in the crossfire, but if they voted for this lying, stupid, pile of vomit, then they deserve to go to hell with him.

Sometimes (unfortunately), the only time things change is when someone gets hurt.

Does that make me a bad person to think like that?

And of course, you're right about plague311. They weren't making an accusation.

Nope, it's just brutal reality.

That's why I don't like watching horror films anymore.

After researching serial killers and missing persons, the brutal reality behind many of the films was too much for me to take.

And now, you can even use them (like the Purge movies) to describe what's happening today by the lowest form of life on earth, a blood sucking leech disguised as a fat clown.

I didn't make a blanket statement at all. I expressed confusion as to why anyone would want to wear the label of "Republican" given what's happening right in front of our eyes. I expressed the same bewilderment when people wore shirts that said they'd rather be Russian than Democrat. The fact is the head of the Republican party is the one ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ this country up.
My reasons for continuing to be a registered republican is personal and no one's business but my own.

Right, none of which I really care about at all. Do what you want. If being a Republican is a shoe that you want to wear, lace that bitch up and wear it. I would be embarrassed as well, that's just me.
I have been called a nazi just because I won't lie and say I'm a dem.

And? Those are the only two options? You're either a Dem or Rep?

Make no mistake, and I'm not going to beat around the bush, by saying you're a Republican then that gives people the impression that you support what your party is doing. Even if you don't, I personally don't give a ◊◊◊◊, but don't be surprised at the backlash you're getting when you actively support the Republican Party as they tear the entire country apart from top to bottom.
Do you think that's fair?

I don't care either way. Just don't be shocked that you catch ◊◊◊◊ when you're backing the worst political party the US has seen in that last century.
And on top of that, it feels like 99.9% of my fellow republicans have turned into little zombie replicas of the lying, fat clown and it pisses me off!!!

....and you're part of that party. Sucks.

I'm not going to change your mind, you aren't going to change mine but to me this is just putting lipstick on a pig. The party itself is the direct cause of the issues going on right now and someone saying "I am apart of that party" would just be embarrassing to me. I'm not saying you guys are right or wrong, I'm not here to judge anyone, and it's really none of my business but if the Dems starting doing ◊◊◊◊ like this, I wouldn't identify as a Dem either. I'd identify as nothing.

Meanwhile, out here in the PNW, the Stranger, (a local paper of outspoken opinions and definite LGBTQ+ leanings) gives the lead story to the fat clown's stooge...

Slog AM: Trumps Attack of Bonneville Power Administration Should Make Us Preppers

Are you paying attention to this? Elon Musk is making huge cuts at the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). What? Isn't that "the backbone of the Northwest power grid." Indeed, it is, and it's being strangled by the hands of DOGE. An important note: BPA was not funded by taxpayers, but ratepayers. So cutting jobs there will have minimal to no impact on the deficit. But the price of the cuts will be huge. We can expect, as two BPA administrators predict, that the staff reduction “will seriously degrade BPA’s ability to maintain reliable power service.” To make matters worse, before the layoffs, the BPA had something like 50 openings. They needed more workers to ensure the resilience of the grid. And now they have lost a bunch of workers. Though BPA rehired 30 workers, it is still "eliminating about 430 total positions." So, the rehiring means jack. We are ◊◊◊◊◊◊. The BPA supplies 75% of PNW's power.

It may suck to you, but being a lone voice of reason in an unreasonable wilderness is kind of exciting. Guerilla warfare from within is something a dem can't do, and trust me, I do it very well.
