Trump's Second Term

Donald says leaders are telling him there's a light over the country right now apparently.

There is a light over the US. The approval ratings for this country have gone through the sky. There’s a light long beyond this country all over the world. I’ve been called by other leaders who say, ‘Sir, there’s a light over our country right now.

Someone's been busy with a sharpie on that map. And you know trump is telling porkies whenever the sentence involves someone telling him "Sir!" he opens his mouth.

Yes, an awful lot of homphobes think that they can use trans athletes as a wedge issue to unperson all trans people, and go on from there.
Wrong. There are an awful lot of misogynists who don’t give a ◊◊◊◊ about women’s rights and safety being eroded by biological men masquerading as women.

If I were Samantha Power, I would sue him for defamation before the judges are too cowed to go against the new rulers.

Or is it already too late?
It really looks as if Musk might be getting so carried away with his job as witchsmeller pursuivant that he's just randomly accusing everyone in civil service of being a witch, as if he had forgotten that accusing innocent people of criminality is grounds for them to sue him.

Trump made the Executive Order on this issue.
But d don’t need to discuss the issue itself. I have suggested we discuss why Trump doesn’t leave it to sports organisations, and got the answer that if taxpayers pay, then Trump is also entitled to change the rules of the sports. But he also wants to change international rules that AFAIK is paid by advertising fees, and not the US state.

For this reason I think it is an important issue for him to attack anything that is not traditional male/female, and homosexuals in sport will definitely be an issue for him also.

He is not doing it to get an even field, or protect women from being hurt by men.

Australia has a trade deficit with America, America has a trade surplus with us. Does that mean we get to put tariffs on Trump but he doesn't put tariffs on us?
Our (i.e. Australia's) better solution is to find and build alternate trading partners local to us, and phase out (or at least tone down) trade with the USA anyway. Frankly, we have been doing this for decades now, but these changes need to accelerate. Our iron ore goes to Asia (85% to China), we buy major engineering products from China and South Korea.

Trump's USA is intent on reneging on their existing trade agreements, so they are fast becoming unreliable partners. If I was a betting man, I'd say the AUKUS agreement and our (frightfully expensive) nuclear sub purchases are dead in the water now, too.

Thus if/when Trump decides to tariff us or not, it will barely make an impact.

I thought the UK were building the subs?

I thought the UK were building the subs?
Nope.

A couple of US-made Virginia-class subs as an interim measure. The later SSN-AUKUS model for the RAN is being built in Australia. It will be based on a UK model being built for the Royal Navy.
Australia will begin building its first SSN-AUKUS in Adelaide South Australia, by the end of this decade. Australia plans to deliver the first Australian-built SSN-AUKUS to the Royal Australian Navy in the early 2040s.
